Chapter 1 - Crossing Paths

I don't remember how I got here. I woke up in a small field next to the Fruman town of Nolden, three years ago. When I woke up, the only thing I remembered was my name - Nicolas - and my age. I had a simple, spear lying next to me, and a blue gemstone.

I was thirteen, then.

"Oi!" Jenkis, the bar owner of the Wild Boar Tavern, nudges me, bringing back me from the depth of my thinking. "A Potion of Drunkness, 3rd level. Go get it, kid."

I look at him blankly for a second, while Jenkis taps his feet impatiently. Then I remember. I worked for Jenkis in the Wild Boar, part-time, to get emeralds. Jenkis was the also the Potion Merchant of Nolden, and a good brewer.

"Yes, sir!" I turn and half-dash to the shelf holding the potions. I pick a potion with dark blue liquid inside. The potion is labeled 'Level 3'. That was the strength of the potion.

I give it to Jenkis, who then give it to a large man at the counter, in exchange for five emeralds.

Not a bad price, I think.

The next customer is a small, hooded figure. They wear a grey cloak, and have a sheath holding a dagger on their belt. I find the figure suspiscious.

The figure draw back their hood halfway, revealing a young girl about my age. She has blonde hair that almost look white, and electric-blue eyes. She has somewhat angular features. She doesn't look like a human. I decide.

Jenkis also looks surprised, but only for a second. He glance at the girl and says, "Well, what do you want, girl?"

The girl look at the potions shelf. "Potion of healing, level 10."

Level 10? She can bear the strength of the potion? Sure, I was level 11, but...

Jenkis frowns. But I knew that he would not miss the chance to sell the potion for a high price. "Twenty-one emeralds, then." He then faces me, and motions toward the shelf.

I pick the potion with red liquid inside, and bring it to Jenkis.

I glance at the girl. "You sure you want this? It's quite strong, you know."

Jenkis shakes his head, snatch the potion from my hands, and put it on the counter. The girl, without saying anything, puts the emeralds onto the counter, take the potion, then walks away.

The same man who had bought the Potion of Drunkness before goes up to the girl. Their conversations were too far away, and the others were too loud to hear, but they were arguing. The man starts to lift a fist at the girl.

I shout, "Hey!"

Before I could leap towards them, the girl raise her hand, grab the man in the wrist, and twist it. The man swears and kneel to the ground, holding his wrist.

In the motion, the girl's hood falls back all the way. My heart skip a beat.

The girl's ears are pointed. She is an elf.

The writing isnt bad, but the title scares me. Its just blant, like "the potion"

Ok, i admit, it made me want to read this

Hmm... I will consider changing them, then. Thanks for the feedback

 

I like the story! But there are way too many unnecessary commas that create punctuation errors. Also, sometimes you switch your present and past tense verbs, which makes it kind of confusing :/
