Currently, damage is displayed like this:
    upload_2017-12-27_9-32-55.png upload_2017-12-27_9-34-32.png

On it's own, it's a nice way of displaying damage; it's not overly intrusive, and it's nice to look at and easy to understand.
But, if I do different types of damage with my weapon, what if I want to know the total amount of damage I've done? I can do addition just fine, but it's not so easy when you're trying to add 5 different numbers that disappear after a second. And no, I don't plan to fill my screenshot folder with hundreds of pictures that are just damage displays.

I know that there are sources out there that help with this kind of stuff. But that only shows the amount of damage your build can do, not the amount of damage your build just did in a short span of time. I like to know the damage I did on the fly.

I propose the implementation of an alternate way of displaying damage, where by using a command like "/toggle damage" or anything of an equivalent function, it would modify the way damage is displayed to the player who used the command (client-sided, of course), going from this:

    [- 127 ✦ ]
    [
    - 84 ♥ ]

    to this:

    [- 211 ]

Doing "/toggle damage" or something again would switch it back of course.
    -----------
This alternative damage display would help display the exact amount of damage for builds that utilize multiple types of damage, like the ones that use Rainbow items.
Any damage done by other players will also display like this, if the alternative damage display is enabled for the player seeing the damage done of course.
If one doesn't like this way of displaying damage, they could simply stick with the current display, I'm not suggesting to remove the current display, keep that in mind.

The order the elemental symbols would go on the alternative damage display would be the same element order seen in the skill points menu, it would go Neutral-Earth-Thunder-Water-Fire-Air.
If an attack/spell utilizes all types of damage in one hit, it would look like this:

    [- 1000 ]

I am aware that the order of the elements is a little different than the order my alternative damage display uses.
    upload_2017-12-27_13-18-40.png
But, if you start from the bottom and go up, you'll notice that it's almost similar to the same order my alternate display uses. I just chose that order because I felt it was the most "consistent" one, don't ask...

Ok enough of this pointless tangent.
    ----------
The one thing I'm not 100% sure about yet is the color of the damage number, because if we put multiple types of damage into 1 box, what color will it be? At first I though the number color should be white, but that's already used by Air...
The more feasible options for me are light red, the same color Neutral damage uses. There's also light orange/tan(?), the same color Neutral damage also uses on the HUD.
    upload_2017-12-27_15-32-54.png
I was also considering a color different than the Elemental colors entirely but I'm not sure which...

However, I think the best option for the color of the damage number would be for it to change based on the damage type that did the most damage in that hit.
If you hit something for Thunder/Air damage, and the Thunder damage did more than Air, then the number's color would be yellow.
If the damage done by each damage type is the exact same... Uhh... The color will randomly be any of the same number values? Not too sure on this one.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe this option isn't the best regarding number colors, having the color constantly switch would just look weird. Other than the light/tan orange color mentioned earlier I can't think of any other colors. If anyone has an idea for the number color go right ahead and tell me.
    ----------
I'm not too familiar with coding, so unfortunately I'm not too sure of any potential difficulties on the theoretical implementation of this, though I imagine it shouldn't be too difficult to implement as it is basically the same as our current damage display, though utilizing the code in a different fashion.

Also, the reason I placed this in Feedback is because I am suggesting an alternative to an existing feature, not a new feature entirely, that's what I think at least...

Make it a toggle, so people can still use the old system, but can switch to this if they want

Definitely a good idea, especially having other people's damage as one thing would make it a lot easier as in the few times I attempted boss battles with other people who had multi-element or rainbow builds, it sometimes got impossible to see the boss through the cloud of damage values. +1

Btw you might to post a thread in General Suggestions with a little context and a link to this, otherwise not many people will see it.

See, while my thread would get more attention if it was posted in General Suggestions, it wouldn't really fit there. General Suggestions is for suggesting new features, while Feedback is for suggesting improvements to existing features. This alternate damage display is different visually, but is the same in it's function.

Also, that'd be weird, to have another thread that just acts as a link to this one. It just doesn't feel right.

If staff is fine with the thread being moved to General Suggestions, I'll consider it. But for now, I think it's fine here.

I have no complaints about this at all. As for color, I would give a few suggestive colors here in the form of their respective ID Colors:
(Keep in mind these are only idea colors as how I like.)
    #FFB675
    #FF9D2E
    #FFB303
    #8812FF

Besides all of this I really like the idea, I cannot see properly on how much damage I regularly do to a single mob as I'm usually left to quickly take a screenshot and add it up. I don't count the training dummies as I want to know the damage on the specific type of mob.

When I wrote this suggestion, purple was another color I considered. In the end I didn't include it since it would be a little difficult to see.

I was also thinking that the color could be something that matches the tier of the weapon you're using. Yellow for Unique, Purple for Mythic, etc. Am I grasping at straws?

I love this suggestion, I really do.
When using rainbow weapons it'll be really helpful, I also really like how there's a /toggle for it.

    +1 from me (why isn't there +100)

Purple is a hard-to-see color, going with lighter colors wouldn't be too bad either considering it would be surrounded by grey or black box. Besides, having a Yellow, Dark Pink, Light Blue, and Royal Purple would be a lot to code and with spells that are long enough to switch your weapons, that'll lag a lot I think, however, there is that /toggle feature you added so yes it'll be a bit of coding but I think it'll be worth it.
