I'm not against them adding ambient sound in the game, I just don't think they'll do it. To properly add atmosphere, they'll need to record different sounds for probably birds, the wind, rivers, the beach, caves, towns and maybe even more. They can't be too short, because then it sounds unnatural. So they'd be increasing their pack size by a lot, for ambient sounds that you might not even hear because of the in-game music.
Also, CraftedMovie used to use ambient sounds in their videos a lot (an example). I'd say they probably just treated these trailers as one of their old videos and simply spiced them up a little.

If they will add ambient sounds it would be just one looping annoying sound here and there, which would be more harmful than good.
The video has like 5 seconds of pure unique bird sound.

Any ambient noise that won't fuck the pack over would only be like.. that amount. Maybe a few sound types, but definitely not a huge amount.

I'm placing my bet they aren't doing it at all.

Not to mention that no staff is talking about this so double my bet to 5 emeralds [i'm poor]

Sounds can be added externally with server side files and plugins, so the file size isn't an issue, and it wouldn't be added to the pack.

For any of you wondering how sounds like these compete with the music, you can try it out for yourselves. A mod named ambient sounds mimics the effect pretty well, and a link is provided in the post. And yes, they sound fine together, as you hope they would, seeing as tons of games have both.

Lastly, like I said before in the thread, it isn't likely they actual added this, the most likely is they recorded the footage with the ambient mod on themselves, so even without the addiction of them, you can still get them through the mod they likely used. Again, mod in post.

Lol, no. Its not that, like I said, the video doesn't seem to have the sounds edited, there's no reason they wouldn't take then out in the parts you can't hear them, and I doubt they would have had it in the ending scene.

Plus its just handy for anyone who wants to know what they would sound like.

Well I'll kill you guy's expectation right away: these sounds are only for the trailer. We did think about adding ambient sound effect a while back (and still think itd be really cool) but we haven't done that in this update. And as said earlier in the thread, sound files are huge compared to small 16x16 textures, so adding them would be a bit more work than it might look like

I've heard this mentioned before, but how do you have server sided sounds?
If it was possible, there would be no reason to NOT add custom sounds everywhere, but no server I know does this.

Are you SURE this is possible?

Yes but due to it being server side it tends to take a lot of data and server speed, basically the game would become massively laggier.

I forget if its been possible sense 1.12 or if its just being added in 1.14 but I'm fairly certain its 1.12.
