Website & Forums Add A Rule That Prohibits Clickbait Titles (100+ Supporters)

This has been becoming a problem lately with some thread titles being, well, clickbait. Then the thread is something that is not what the title says and usually ends up disappointing many people.

Okay, since the original example has its thread name changed, I need your help finding me threads for the wall of shame.

Seriously, its a dick move, it should be against the rules or something.

Of course, this rule doesn't apply with Shitpost SectionVIP Plaza because that's what that is about.

Oh and if someone breaks the rule, report the thread, and the person has a few hours (maybe 24hours) to change the thread title to match the thread content.

I will add on that you don't know how it feels to be cheated off of something. Like if you wanted to see a new mythic added that you always waited for, see a thread title that says new mythic, check it was a troll, you will be very angry and disappointed. Its kind of like when you want a raise in your job, hear that you will get a raise from your boss/paycheck (idk how this works, probably a bad example), only to see the raise wasn't real but instead something bad (demotion, fired, or less pay, idk). Wouldn't you get mad? Or like going to apply for a high school/ college that you worked hard to apply to, get a letter saying you got accepted, but the title was a lie and only said that to get attention.

Oh and the famous example is when a click bait title interests you, doesn't look click baity to you, so you click on link. Guess what? Pop up ads, viruses, and/or the content not relating to title happens in the page and you get mad with the ads not letting you escape, which wastes your precious time, specifically when in a time rush. (ps assuming the website doesn't matter, of course).

To be fair, I'm just being a bit over the top here, but yeah, it can get mildly annoying.

Okay, for those having problems with understanding what I mean (sigh), if the title does not relate with the thread content and the thread title draws unnecessary attention for people to click the thread, then it is considered at click baiting.

That would go against what I said about not allowing clickbait.

 

Honestly, this doesn't hurt anyone, and what defines clickbait often varies from person to person. (I don't think this is needed)

 

I think the rule should be that the title is informative of the content. "Ummm" or "I found this..." or "Help" give no information and are extremely common titles, similar to clickbait.

Being a newbie here, I don't have that much of an opinion. However, I do agree that click bait is pretty annoying =/.

Yeah, I see your point there. Maybe if the thread reaches 50+ supporters, maybe it can be clarified in more detail. Idk, we'll see lol.

 

But are click bait threads preventing you from doing something? Does it hurt your feelings? Is it an advantage only they can do? It's not harmful in any way, it's just annoying but I still think it should be allowed.

 

There is no way this rule can even be implemented. Do you suggest moderators spend hours a day searching through the forums, clicking on every single thread to make sure it isn't clickbait? Maybe you should just stop being triggered and give it up.

Intentional clickbait is terrible. I cannot stand it.
However, there are plenty nicefind.avi cases where the poster doesn't know that everybody else has found this mythic, so they make a clickbait-y title anyways. If the rule's added, we will have to be careful about what we flag as clickbait.
