Game Mechanics Ability Tree Synergies

    I've had a problem with the ability trees as of late. The fact that some abilities lock other abilities out kinda urks me in a way that I can't describe. It makes hybridization of Archetypes all the more hard, as just one ability can lock you out of an entire archetype. (LOOKING AT YOU ASSASSIN)

    So here, I want to give my take on how this could be improved: Taking an ability that would conflict with another would now replace some abilities with others.

    Here's an example:

    Lightbender and Arcanist: Going down the Arcanist tree, you'd take Psychokinesis, which would usually lock Ophanim out. But now, it replaces Ophanim with an entirely new ability: Fireball (or whatever you want to call it)

    Fireball would act similarly to Ophanim, summoning 2 rotating orbs behind you, but these orbs are replaced with miniature meteors (or Fireballs). When using the Main Attack, you lauch one of these Fireballs, which explode on contact and won't return if they don't hit anything. So 1 Melee = 1 Fireball thrown. This encourges you to slightly spec into Melee for mage, as fast attack speed would mean more meteors would be thrown faster. (as opposed to Ophanim, where it's actually better for you to have SLOWER attack speed.)

    Fireball would also benefit from the buffs of both Stronger Meteor, and Stronger Ophanim, to make up for the fact that it only shoots one Fireball at a time. This also means that it is affected by Arcane Restoration, with each Fireball giving two mana per hit. Abilities like Divination and Better Ophanim would increase the ammount of Fireballs you could have on your person at a time; think of it as an ammo increase. Lightweaver, on the other hand, would now spawn 2 Dead Stars above your head (like a halo), and these would launch last in your Fireball count. These Dead Stars would have higher damage, and bigger explosion radius. Pyrokinesis would also play a part, but I don't know how it would.

    Another example would be in Assassin:

    Shadestepper and Acrobat:

    Taking both Fatality and Backstab would grant you X-Slash (Yes, it's based on Deltarune, SHHHH)
    X-Slash would deal 2 quick slashes in an X shape, striking key weakpoints of an enemy, and causes them to get the Weaken Enemy debuff, with a max of 2 (Idk if this would be overpowered or not)

    Taking Nightcloak Knife and Shurikens would give you the Kunai Ability, which would have slightly decreased damage, but higher crit damage, and would deal more damage if the enemy is hit from behind with them (To make up for the fact that X-Slash doesn't do that)


    There is totally more you could do with this concept, like Ritualist making Acolyte draw in different energy depending on which mask you have on (Bloodshed, Obsession, Grief, etc. instead of Blood). Or maybe Fallen and Paladin giving you abilities that mimic the Dern Beast, like a Darkness meter to replace the Fallen meter, that would increase damage over time, but wouldn't increase from taken damage, and also take away health over time, like the Wither effect.

    I want to hear your thoughts on this. Would it be good, does it have some problems? Let me know. And also give me some of your ideas, I'd like to hear them!

    I absolutely love the concept of this but the current tree needs to be balanced first. But yeah this kind of actual hybridization would be awesome if done properly. But also dev time :(
