Lore/Story A Strange Request

a.k.a. A proposed origin story for a certain bird person who blurs the line between Avos traditionalism and human (steampunk) futurism, told from the mouth of a Corkian tailor.

Ah, a customer! Welcome to the Corkian Tailoring Emporium! What will it be? A cloth woven from the finest silk in the world? The ultimate in snake hide fashion, made out of Luu Luu Snakes native to Corkus? Or will it be ancient fabric, remastered with tribal motifs?

Or maybe... you seek the clothing of your desires?

I have been working with some of the greatest clients around the world, many of them from the aristocracy of Gavel. High and mighty beings, I dare say! Villager politicians, Dwarven royalty, Elven leaders, I've made clothes for them all! Surely, you do wish to see and wear for yourself a piece of tailoring masterpiece? No? Well, if you don't want to, I can also repair some of your tattered gear. Mundane and boring, but makes ends meet when no big customers are around.

Oh! While working on your stuff, let me talk about one of the most memorable clients that I had over the years. Back in 979, I received an anonymous commission from an Avo of all things. An Avo! They already refuse to go down the hill they live on, let alone visit Corkus City, given the distrust between us humans and our avian neighbors - but one of them wrote a commission letter just because they wanted clothing for some reason! Granted, the commission made its way here with postal, so I never met them in person while making the clothes for them. I may have botched the proportions because of that, thinking Avos would have a similar anatomy to humans... I've been told to meet in Relos, where human/Avo relations were somewhat more lax. It was probably when I saw what the commission was for that I was in absolute shock - an egg! Who makes a tailoring request for an unborn entity?! I can understand human pregnancy and such, but why?

Turns out, they were dying, and the reason why they wanted me to commission some clothes was not because they wanted to go out in style (heh), but because they wanted their daughter to wear them in the future. To think an Avo would grow up without her parents...

The Avo would not accept her back, "family is sacred" or whatever, so I did the second best thing that I had to do - I told my good friend in Relos, Emmett, to raise the child as his own. Now, Emmett was a lunatic by Corkian standards. He believed that one day, the Avos and the humans would live in peace. Nobody would've believed them back then, given his old age and his reputation as the "village idiot". Who would've guessed that it would come closer to fruition than it had been in centuries?

Anyway, the kid grew up to be a beautiful -yet impulsive and eccentric like her adoptive parent- Avo, and has since then left her home in Relos to settle in North Corkus. She mostly lives in that dilapidated workshop, and I frankly don't know what she's working on, but last time I saw her, she was saying that she was working on something that would help the Avos and the denizens of Corkus finally achieve harmony with one another. Shame that I'll never get to live on to that day, these old bones have seen too much life.
