“I believe in you.” Althea grins at Naomi before ducking... somewhere. Out of the way, but also preferably out of the room.

A transparent fat purple book appears in front of her which then gets hit by the fireball completely canceling it out while making a barrier in front of Naomi.

The man takes out a gun.

The man takes a shot at Naomi. The bullet doesn't penetrate the barrier.

"Thanks," Kayla says as she closes the door to Dr. Lakrow's office.

Some of the floor in front of the barrier has caught on fire.

What now?

Well Dr. Lakrow was inspired by a character from Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan series. That character was named Dr. Barlow. Hella smart and decisive woman. I'd say more but I think it would expose Dr. Lakrow's very secret skill set.

Kayla does get startled before calming down.
