Whereas Godspell has surface-level Christianity, Les Mis Beautifully shows forgiveness and mercy. For instance, when Jean Valjean was released from prison, the Bishop had mercy and took him in.
    Here
Les Miserables and Godspell are two musicals with Christian themes; however, they implement this in very different ways. While Godspell has more obvious connections to the faith, Les Mis delves deeper into the true meaning of Catholicism.

Although Godspell is a retelling of the gospel of Mattew, hence the name Godspell, it leaves out key moments in the ministry of Jesus such as all of his miracles. Leaving us as the viewer unsatisfied since it portrays Jesus as an overly gentle hippie instead of the Son of God. Another distasteful thing is that the actor who plays John the Baptist turns into Judas at the end. This does not add to the musical in any way.

Even though Jean tried to steal items from the church the Bishop exhibited forgiveness and that kick-started Jean Valjean's conversion to become a better person.

Jean Valjean is a very good example of charity. He demonstrates charity by taking Cosette into his own house. Jean also saved the lives of two people, Even though he could have been caught and taken back to prison. Which shows that he puts others before himself.

I remembered! And because I forgot five times, you will get five words:

"medo" /medo/ = noun/adjective; "heat", "warmth" but also "life" and equivalent adjectives
"dogu" /dogun/ = adjective; "free", "liberated"
    "arzul" /arzul/ = noun; "message"
"xozahqira" /xozahʔira/ = noun; "know who knows", "scholar"
"welma" /ɣelma/ = noun; "ritual", usually magical one

Although Godspell tries to send a nice message, it fails and this is where Les Mis ultimately succeeds.
