github doesnt work for what?
you could try saving everything onto google drive and have that be a shared folder

 

The files don't upload, and we can't use google drive because it's not possible to sync local files with cloud files like it is with github AFAIK :/

 

What do you mean it's not possible to sync local files with cloud files?
I'm doing a group Java project and we just put our workspace as a shared folder. However, only one person can work at a time on it otherwise extremely bad sync errors occur

Are you trying to sync the game files?

 

We tried to sync the files with github, but there were errors when uploading them in the first place. I didn't try google drive because I don't know how to sync files directly.

 

You have to have everyone download offline drive. (the actual drive program)
This will give your computer a new folder with all your stuff from google drive. If you choose to share one of your folders, everyone who has access can have it appear in their Drive program if they add it to My Drive. Now, everytime a change is made, it's synced for everyone with access and any changes are downloaded.
WARNINGS: 1. Do not open your IDE until after google drive finished syncing. You can find out by clicking it's icon in the sidebar down below.
2. Do NOT work on it at the same time. Google drive only syncs after you finish and close your IDE, and it can cause sync errors and file duplication if multiple people work at the same time.

Can google drive deal with 1.64 GB, 20,561 files, and 817 folders? If I were to only sync the scripts then everyone would have do other changes manually (as in changing the scene) :/

 

It will be a slow sync at first definitely.
Google drive offers a free 15 GBs, so it should be able to.
However, when you just download it, it's gonna take ages. I have 1.4k files and it takes a good 10 minutes when I first download google drive on a computer. However, once you finish the first downloads, the other new syncs usually end up pretty fast.

I'd say probably also keep a zip file backup in case multiple devs accidently work on it at the same time and something terrible happens.

I'd say zero :P We are still working on the basics, and only have a showcase-ish area to play around with the features. You can mess around for 15-30 minutes though, but there isn't much of a point yet sadly.

C#, but it's really messy and it's hard for me to see what I was doing with the code, since I started this almost a year ago. Tbh the development kind of stopped because of over-scoping and aiming too high. I've moved on to other projects and so did the rest afaik. It was a good journey though and we learned quite a bit (especially about how big we can scope). I'm working on another project now (a Paper Mario-esque battle system) so I might make a thread with that sometime.
