I take a deep breath, as if in relief.
"Well, if it isn't you." I look at the body in the boy's arms "Quite an unfortunate time though."

 

"...where was the shoot-out?"

Diabel coughed deeply, then met eyes with Rathius, and they nodded to each other in recognition. The knight then turned to Alice. "Lady Alice, are you all right?"

Alice shook the water out of her silver hair, and turned a weak smile to Diabel. "I'm okay, Diabel, thank you."

"......what happened?" Marcus asked, scanning everyone's' faces. "Who are you all?"

"....I could say the same to you two too." Rathius muttered, motioning at Marcus and the elf.

 

"My name's Marcus. Your turn."
He stands up straighter.

 

Archibaud's predecessor, the fourth generation scythe Almirad, fought in the Demi Human War when it happened. Archibaud knows that the «Sphinx» was a name of a enemy sorcerer who was feared as a 'witch', and the only being who was known as a witch other than the Witch of Envy.

According to details of the war, Sphinx had an appearance of a young elf girl with pale red hair, wearing a large robe too big for her petite stature. Despite her looks, everyone who encountered her could feel the monstrous aura emitted from her, portraying her strength. The Scythe and the «Sword Demon» fought against her individually but still could not kill her.

She was one of the three greatest enemies of the Kingdom in the Demi-Human Army, alongside the demi-human hero, lizardman Libre Fluemi, and the genius tactician, one of the last members of the giant race, Valga Cromwell.

During the war, she cast a vast number of magic traps in the warfield, taking hundreds of thousands of lives. Furthermore her «Undead King's Sacrament» turned all bodies of the two armies into an undead army, causing devastating damage.

When she ambushed the Royal Capital Castle while the armies fought outside, Roswaal K. Mathers (The Mathers family have had the same name for every generation) fought her in a magical battle, defeating her and driving her into the sewer system. It was a knight commander named Liep Felodore who claimed to have 'finished' the witch in the sewer system, though.

That's about it, I guess? Archibaud should know he is not strong enough to defeat her alone, because Scythe Almirad couldn't.

Diabel narrowed his eyes. "My name is Diabel Kalsten, Member of the Royal Knights Brigade. Mister Marcus.... that is not enough. Who are you? What were you doing the moment before we got transported?"

 

"...You don't happen to be a friend of a 'Roswaal', do you?"

 

The boy didn't react to their voices at all; he kept limping forward, the girl in his arms. Looking up close, they could tell that she was already long dead.

"......hey." Kayde muttered, sounding uncomfortable. The ability-user was an enemy; but he also was in a state of terrible loss. The knight touched the boy's shoulder——

".......unarm."

A huge shockwave sent Kayde tumbling into the wall on the other side. At the same time, the boy fell to his side on the ground, coughing up blood.

"You know Roswaal!?" The silver-haired girl widened her eyes. Marcus then noticed that the girl's ears were pointed—not on the level of the younger blond elf girl, but still pointed.

A..... silver haired half-elf!?

 

“Yeah.”
Marcus peered at the girl, but decided to verbally ignore her odd feature.
“She helped me not get my ass kicked, so I owe a bit to her.”
He understates.

 

''It might looks like we have a lot of fire power that isnt really the case. I gather the mana form the atmospher to enhance my abillities, but in doing so I would make it way harder for Roswaal. we also stand no chance going in one by one. If anyone has any ideas I'd like to hear them.''

 

"You seem.. trust worthy, so I'll introduce myself. The name is Rathius Tinzel, Royal Guard to the capital."

He looks into the water.
"Hey, Diabel or anyone else, could you think you could retrieve some of those chains?"

 

I go to where Kayde was sent to.
"Hey, you okay?" I turn my head to the boy, ready to yell at him for what he had done, but I look at his state "Gods, you look terrible."

 

"What the-?!"

Staying silent and sticking his hands in the pockets of his coat, the doctor looked around in his surroundings.

"..........perhaps cared for me? I guess so since I am here alone...."

He was whispering to himself, in a barely audible voice. He suddenly lifted his head, then called.

"Oh, yes. Velvet, you can come out."

".....you're so obnoxious, Siri. You know I can't take form without your 'permission'!"

Just when a voice replied, a figure started to materialise in the air in front of the doctor.

It was a girl around ten or so. She had long wavy blonde hair and large pair of clear blue eyes; and was a beauty, with pale smooth skin and a neat face. She wore an expensive-looking red dress, and floated down to the ground. She was pouting unhappily at the doctor, crossing her arms.

"Ahh, Velvet. Thank you for saving me from all those weapons earlier." The doctor smiled happily, insignificant to the girl—Velvet—'s annoyance, and patted her head.

"You dumb middle-aged!" Velvet shouted, and a powerful force flung the doctor against a nearby wall, giving him no time to react.

"O-ouch.... that was mean, Velvet...." The doctor groaned as he got up weakly. Velvet turned away, sulking.

"Shut up. Besides, it wouldn't have hurt you much anyway! That's what I hate about you! Hnh!" She stomped her feet angrily.

"Ahaha, that can't be helped." The doctor laughed, then patted Velvet again. This time, the girl let him instead of attacking. The doctor's expression turned serious.

"We've got work to do, dear partner. It seems that witch is wreaking havoc in my organisation. It's time she and the executives supporting her got their atonement for their sins."

 

Roswaal smiled at Archibaud. "If that is what you are concerned about, you need not worry. My powerfully stable gate will not let a single drop of mana leak even when an outside force works on it; and also, I have my Divine Blessing."

".....which is?" Archibaud asked.

"I am gifted with the Divine Blessing of Master Sorcerer; not only am I compatible with all elements of magic, I am also able to hold great amount of mana inside my body."

"The Divine Blessing only you have in the world." Carol muttered.

"Aaaanyway. Is it alright if we move on? I hope you are quite ready."

Holy shit, I spilled isotonic drink all over my phone. I hope it lives.

".....? Sure." Diabel answered, then pointed his hand at the water. "Kua!"

In a few seconds, Diabel's spirit had brought a chain from the bottom of the water and had thrown it onto the bank.

The chain seem to have been in the water for long; its surface black and slimy. They were normal chains; still, Rathius wasn't quite sure if it was «Lust»'s chains or not.

The ability user was gasping for air as blood dripped from the edge of his mouth. He then went quiet, as he seemed to have lost his consciousness.

"Thank you." Kayde said to Angela as she helped him up. He then looked down at the boy. "He probably was at his limit. Using his ability probably made him drain his energy."

"....what should we do about them? We can't just leave them here." Angela said grimly.

"Should we carry them?" James asked, turning to Kayde.

"....." Kayde was looking at the boy and the body of the girl. "When she died, the spell of «Undead King's Sacrament» must've revived her as an undead, and she must've attacked him." He muttered, pointing at the boy's neck— where marks of hands was left clearly.

"That's horrible." Angela pursed her lips.

"Yes." Kayde said. "There was clearly a battle between ability users; maybe a dispute in the Eight Fingers." He then knelt down next to them both and started examining their clothes. He grimaced as he searched the girl.

"They don't have the insignia. Probably taken by whoever attacked them." Kayde said, turning to Angela and James. He widened his eyes suddenly, them shouted: "James, duck!!!"

Instinctively James ducked down: and something whistled through the air right where Jame's head was—— and at a terrifying speed.

"Incoming attack!" Kayde shouted.

 

Marcus took a better look around to see what exactly the area he was in looked like.
"So, Rathius, Diabel, Alice, and..."
He talked to the group as he looked.
