"Can we do anything to help with that?" I stand up suddenly "I mean, unless we don't get our heads cut off like everyone else already said." I shrug

 

”Kuh... ahahahaha...!!” Roswaal suddenly started laughing. All of them, even her follower Carol, turned a shocked look at the woman.

“Ahh... I apologise. You don’t know do you~?” Roswaal closes her blue eye and looked with her yellow eye. “The Witch Everia from 400 years ago is known by the public as the Jealous Witch. However that is a large and perhaps fatal mistake; she was known back then as the ‘Witch of Envy’. As long as Everia is alive inside the seal, the seat of «Envy» will not be inherited. Understand~?”

“My knowledge is not faaar enough to cover the Sins of «Pride» and «Wrath»; but yes, it was probably one of those two who had raided the tomb.” Roswaal finished.

“Then, there rises another problem.” Diabel sighed and looked down. “Earlier your execution were decided. Except for the Scythe, all of you will be taken without any trial.”

 

"I see. Then, legally, your hands are tied. May I propose a solution?"

 

“Of course. Go on~?”

 

"What if some bumbling young guard simply 'forgets' to check the locks on these cells? Simply 'forgets' to report a missing prisoner or two?

 

"We can use our magic outside this prison, right?"

 

Roswaal narrowed her eyes amusedly. “Classic way for one to escape a prison. This young guard sure is a failure of a knight to forget to lock six prison cells containing the Kingdom’s highest ranking criminals, as well as leaving a door open which needs a special key, amn’t I right~?”

"Then how...." Angela pursed her lips.

Roswaal smiled. "You can't fake your way out of this. Or neither will you survive if you were taken into court. What shall we dooo~?"

"Lady Roswaal? You can't be serious in helping them escape——" Carol started to protest, but Roswaal silenced the knight by placing a finger on her mouth.

"I apologise for dragging you into this, Miss Carol. But you are forbidden to speak of this to aaaaanyone else." The woman then turned to Diabel, Izanami, and everyone else. "We would haaave to compromise. Knight Diabel will help you out of this Tower— leave the reeest to me."

"Why are you going so far in length to help us, Margrave?" Kayde asked, not being able to help but feel suspicious.

"I am doing this out of my goodness of heart, knowing that you are all innocent. Is that what you waaaant to hear from me~?" Roswaal chuckled. "Everyone has reasons and motivations behind whaaaat they do, dear knight. Aaaand it's not always that they tell them around halfheartedly."

I turn to Diabel "And how you plan on getting us out of here?" I ask him, looking into his eyes "Can you use magic out of the cells or this entire place stops us from using it?"

 

"Do you know if we can use our magic outside this cell or is it the entire prison that is preventing us from using it?"

He looks around. "And what about our equipment?"

 

"If izanami is coming with me I'm fine"

 

Marcus without saying anything started working on his locks with the pin. It took a good five minutes until Marcus finally turned the pin, opening the lock carefully and quietly. No movements in the guarding figures. Marcus moved his blades beneath his pelt closer to where he can pull them out in emergencies, then turned to the two children behind him.

"Can you tell me where we are right now?" Marcus whispered in a barely-audible voice. The older boy's eyes widened, then shook his head.

"What happened?" Marcus inquired further. The boy looked at his younger sister, then looked up.

"Because of.... the witchfiends, all of us were evacuated... into a shelter." The boy spoke, his voice raspy and dry. He probably had not drank water for quite long time. Looking, the younger girl seemed much worse; her eyes were half closed, her chest rising and falling visibly. "A person... in a big coat and covered with bandages.... came with those... cloaked people..." He recalled; "....then that person chopped down... at a woman nearby with her hand...... and we all... blacked out... and we've been here.... for more than a whole day... you came few hours after.... we came here."

 

"Have they given you any food?"
Marcus continues to whisper.

"These walls are quite strange, if you aaaask me." Roswaal said. "Some spells woven into them prevents any flow of mana. Magic can't be used; and neither spirit arts. I'm suuure that this effect is limited to inside the walls~." She then motioned to Carol, who while frowning handed a bag. The woman put in her hand into the bag— and took out a lump of cloth.

Diabel had unlocked all the cells, and now Roswaal threw each lump at each of them. When Kayde expanded the cloth along with others, he found that it was a long cloak— complete with a hood. It was coloured differently— Angela had white, Rathius had reddish-brown, Tyrinel light brown, James gray, Archibaud black and Kayde light blue. It was almost creepy how Roswaal had gathered the colours for each of them.

"Those cloaks are handmade by me — do take care of thooose, would you~?" Roswaal winked. "They are woven with anti-recognition spells. As long as you are wearing them, people would not recognise you. Turn the brooch on them around 90 degrees, and they would erase your presence completely. You won't disappear from sight, and it will only last for twenty seconds before it goes off. Use them to get out of here. Understand~?"

The boy made a disgusted look as he remembered. "Yes... I don't think there were enough for everyone... though.... The adults gave us.... children food first..."

Marcus felt deep anger filling up inside him. They didn't deserve this.

The boy looked worriedly down at his sister, then looked up. "I think.... they mentioned.... making us slaves. To an empire, or something...."

 

"Thanks this helps a lot" I take off my old cloak and put the new one on "I assume we will be keeping these?"

 

"I... Thank you" I put on mine and get my hood on
"Now, where are we going when we get out of here? I suppose I don't have a home anymore, soo I'll be following you" I shrug "And as he already said-" I point with my head at Rathius "-will we get our weapons back?"

 

He puts on the cloak. "Interesting. And it matches too." He says with a bright smile.

 

Marcus nods to the boy, gritting his teeth.
“Thanks.”

 

"Would've perfered a robin egg blue personally." James shrugs and puts on his cloak.

"Hmmmm~. I'm glad you like them. But please do not breeaak them, would you~?"

"And for your question, Angela." Diabel narrowed his eyes. "I heard that your weapons were disposed of by the knights. I'm sorry, but you can—"

"Ohhh, don't worry about that. I've acquired theeem before they could be disposed." Roswaal winked, showing her yellow eye.

"Seriously, who is this person...?" James muttered. Even Diabel and Carol seemed surprised. Actually, looking at this situation, even Roswaal herself's 'bodyguard' didn't seem to know her very well.

Roswaal narrowed her eyes at everyone else. "When we escape here, I would liiiike you to go to my temporary residence in the southeastern part of city. Miss Carol will lead you there in my absence. Understand~?"

 

He nods "You got it." Meanwhile, he puts on the hood.
"When will we head out?"
