I just quietly stare at Izanami trying to speak to her ''Iza what happened, are you okay?''

Rathius shrugs. "Do as you wish." He says, "We're not going anywhere."

He stops leaning against the wall and walks to the cell doors.
"But what are you doing here?" He points at Diabel. "Come to laugh at us. Cause if you do, I'll have to ask you to leave."

 

The room seems like it was carved out and enforced with stone bricks; it was obviously underground. There were thick iron bars covering one wall and there were silent cloaked figures standing guard. The people were mostly quiet, all having haughty looks on their faces. Marcus couldn't tell what time of day it was, or how long has passed.

 

Marcus heads to the corner of the wall away from the guards, seeing if he makes sound.

 

The woman turned an amused look at Diabel. "Whaaaat a harsh opinion they have on you, «Finest Knight». What did you do to them~?" She laughed softly. Diabel lowered his shoulders and sighed softly.

"Lady Roswaal, are we really alright being in here? I've heard that they are all criminals—" The blonde knight in light armour said from behind the woman who was named Roswaal.

"No, Miss Carol. I believe the reports we have received are wrong—— isn't that right, Mr. Knight~?" Roswaal again looked at Diabel.

"I believe so, Margrave Roswaal." Diabel turned a tired look at those in the cells. "I think we have a big misunderstanding here. I can't let you out just yet— but we're not here to cause harm. We're here to talk."

Izanami turned a look to Archibaud. I'm sorry, Archi. I'm confused— something's really up with my mind. We first need to.... settle this.

Now all of the people inside the cells— Kayde Ferris, Rathius Tinzel, Angela Serafina, Tyrinel Amir, James Bourbon and Scythe Archibaud— had their attentions on the newcomers.

"Firstly, please forgive me for listening onto your conversation from outside." Diabel apologised. His expression then turned serious. "If what you say is true— the ones who caused the uprising two days ago were not you six, but the Witch Cultists?" The knight frowned in distaste as he spoke; he seemed to know of the Witch Cult. Izanami and the knight Carol did not seem to understand, but Margrave Roswaal raised an eyebrow at the name.

Marcus found that the chains he was bound to was connected to the other people as well, and by moving he made sounds. However, the guards did not react at all, and stayed silent and unmoving.

Two children crouching next to a wall next to Marcus slowly looked up at the old hunter. One was a boy around 13 years old; and with him crouched a younger girl only about 7 or 8. They both had the same brown hair, and were probably siblings. They were bound in chains as well.

(and Marcus then remembers of a pin hidden under his hair behind his ear. He always kept it for hunting.)

 

"Uhm, yes? What about it? Last time I checked you helped putting us here, why should we believe you are here to help?" I cross my arms and try to look angry at him

 

Marcus plops down with his back to the guards, feigning despair. He then looked to the boy and smiled, for he had a few plans, but it was not the right time.
Marcus then checks for any locks or holes on his shackles.

 

"Oh please. I know that every single one of us is innocent. So unless Lady giggle and Blondy over there know any way of helping us, I don't feel like talking."

"We probably won't be here for long anyway." He quietly says.

 

Marcus found that he was the last one to be chained— he was apparently the newest addition to this room, after he was captured. Thus, the shackles were right behind his back. The older boy noticed what Marcus was trying to do— he quietly gestured to the guards with his chin, as if telling him to be careful.

 

He nods, then, realizing he hasn’t done it yet, checks what items he has on him and if he kept his pelts.

 

"Ooohhh, are you talking about me~?" Roswaal lifted her hands in defence. "I'm a maiden who can be offended, you know~?"

".....Be respectful. This lady here is a person far above your class." The knight, Carol, warned.

"Saaaaave the hostility for later, Miss Carol. But yeees, I haven't introduced myself yet haven't I~?" Roswaal smiled mysteriously. "I am Margrave Roswaal M. Mathers— the Royal Sorcery and Magics Advisor. And this is my bodyguard while my stay in the Capital, knight Carol Remendis. Pleased to make your acquaintance."

"Rathius Tinzel and Angela Serafina— I am sorry for my behavior at that time. I was only doing my job as a knight. But let me tell you this: I believe you." Diabel looked around the quiet room. "I believe you with your claim that this uprising was done by the Witch's Cult. This is not my emotional decision: I say this followed with evidences."

"Which are?" James inquired.

"Firstly, regarding alchemist Tyrinel Amir. The documents on you states your immunity to miasma and your ability to siphon them away. That would not explain how you managed to lead the witchfiends with that thick stench of miasma. Margrave....?"

Roswaal nodded. "Yeeees, Mr. Knight. I do not pick up any miasma coming out from him."

Diabel nodded. "That would not explain the reports that you were the one leading this time's witchfiend's attacks. Lady Roswaal had examined the barriers surrounding the city and confirmed nothing was amiss, too."

"The only explanation would be the Authority of «Gluttony», riiiiight~?" Roswaal shrugged.

"Wait. How do you know of «Gluttony»—" Angela paused. "How do you and Diabel both remember the Cultists?"

"Aaah, it's simple, dear seraph." Roswaal smiled. "If what you had said is true and this memory alteration was done by «Sloth»'s Authority, then it can be inferred that it only overwrites memory of a certain time period, which in this situation was during the attack. For me and Mr. Knight who knew the Cultists from before that time period and not affected by the Authority any time before that, we can remember them. All right~?"

"The second evidence, though I am sure it isn't necessary much anymore. The Great Spirit here claims that she cannot recall the memory of how exactly Scythe Archibaud attacked the King Candidates, and cannot remember any of the details. There is a large gap in her memory which cannot be explained by any magic— save for «Sloth»'s Authority." Diabel turned to Izanami, who nodded. "That Authority explains how such a powerful and murderous organization had been hidden for all this time, right?"

"Aaaaand the third evidence, the most important of aaaall." Roswaal lifted a finger in front of her. "I'm sooorry if I offend you, but the six of you can't hope to even attempt the damage caused in this attack." Her expression turned darker. "The Tomb of the Royal Family had been raided, while a lot of the fighting power were sent outside. More accurately, the grave that was raided belonged to the First King, the one who made the contract with Dragon Excalibus— King Revius Eliot Arcuntar."

".....!!" A shock ran through the room.

"B-but that room is guarded by the highest ranking Royal Knights and the Holy Golems!" Kayde cried.

"It iiis true that the guard there had been soft these days, but you're right, Mr. Kayde Ferris." Roswaal said. "«Greed»'s purpose was most likely not assassinating the Candidates, but keeping the Scythe busy. The Holy Golems were not activated, and the Royal Knights that were guarding the tomb all were turned to ashes, with no remnants of their souls remaining. A certain book was stolen from the King's grave— I won't specify what book— but I think you should know that it is a key to unlocking the seal on the Witch of Envy. Quite troubling, if you ask me~."

 

Does everyone important in this world have a middle name?

I stand, slowly. "I can speculate on a dozen witchfiends that could turn a mortal to ash... but that is likely irrelevant. Are there any of the Cardinal Sins that were unaccounted for during the attack?"

 

Rathius sighs and looks at Roswaal.
"Look, I understand that you want to help us. But we're still going to court, unless you can convince all of them that we are innocent."

 

Damn, this really is a JRPG.

"We can always try to convince them that we're not anything special. Like she said, the six of us couldn't have done that damage."

 

"Namely.... «Pride» and «Wrath»." Kayde told Tyrinel.

He seems to have retained his pelt, because his captors didn't see worth in taking it away. However his swords, bows, and arrows were taken. Marcus finds that they had not taken the tiny blades concealed deep in the pelt.

Yes this is really a jrpg. (you know that this RP's like a copy of a japanese webnovel series? It's written in main thread)

 

He tries to get at at least one of the blades, putting it in a more accessible spot.

 

I start thinking a bit and then say "What about «Envy», no one here mentioned fighting «Envy»?"

 

I've looked into this. Should I keep it secret or spoil it?


EDIT: It honestly takes half a minute of research to find out what the names are referencing XP

 

I noticed that a looong time ago.

I assumed that was just a thing particular to them.

 

It took me a minute to realise it after I googled it.
