Why do you want a mod following you? They are pretty much the same as a normal player following you.

Exactly what Akel said. The fact that he has mods following him has no significance whatsoever. Of course, Francis is a good member of the forums, which allows him to have so many followers, but mods are effectively no different to other players.

It's probably because moderators have an important role in the community, whereas GM's and Builder's work primarily behind the scenes.
