I feel like the strongest part of the game is the very first playthrough from 1-106 of all content, and its actually insane that a "game" of that quality is free. For that reason alone I'd honestly recommend Wynncraft to anyone who seems interested.
You get a bunch of cool storylines like Hollow Serenity and PonR. You get a massive and absolutely beautiful world to explore. You get a character building system which even early on has a ton of depth. I always see people that just started out on Wynn who adore the game and its clear why.
I think a key part of why this works is because you have a reward for the grinding you do at this point in the game. What kept me going in the first years of wynn when the grind was abysmal was the knowledge that I'd have new areas and stories to experience. Contrast this with the endgame, where the reward for grinding is... honestly not much.
I'm not gonna imply that the first playthrough is perfect: some quests/dungeons feel very outdated, and soul points are a terrible feature that Salted thankfully seems interested in maybe removing one day (I think), but I think one's first playthrough is extremely underrated among the community, and its the reason why I still love wynncraft as a game.
Even if the endgame content is minimal, I do think Wynn succeeds in providing an open-world adventure to get to that point, although I would like a more cohesive story and also no soul point loss upon death. Hopefully Fruma will help with some of the issues I have with the game, whenever it comes out.
Final point: back in the old days when there was 0 endgame conent whatsoever, there actually was someone to do once you had beaten the game for the first time: interacting with the community. And this isn't really a thing you can do anymore. Not only does the community seem more divided, but it seems way more cold in a sense. Like, way more people seem like they're on the verge of doxxing you
i don't entirely agree that there's a major cutoff after finishing a first playthrough but i definitely agree on the last one, forums as a place is somehow dying more and more and the discord server grows evermore cynical
That last final point really hits hard, especially for someone who only really cared about the community. I'm honestly tired of playing wynncraft and pretend i still find fun things to do in it, but the community, it really helped me a lot. I made a lot of friends along the way that i now have close to zero contact. I guess people just come and go, there are new players now, as i like to call them the new generation.
