"but how can something be sapient yet exist in two different places?"
this is the first time something inanimate has shown signs of sentience, so you cannot assume that the laws that apply to humans apply to lava, or rock, or anything of that matter if they are sentient
1. what is sapience
2. on this level of thinking though, isnt sentience just a figment of our imagination? in reality, our "sentience" is just our brain processing some electric signals. i dont know how lava processes things but im assuming it's generally the same process
First of all
As lava, I have more experience with lava physiology than humanoid physiology, but I don’t have organs, such a neurological center i.e. brain. Bits and pieces of me can exist in distant location, and I can still control (and “see” through) those bits.
If it helps your comprehension, you may think of me as a sort of “ghost”, possessing a puddle of lava, except that it can do so at any distance, and that the “ghost” is possessing all of the lava, regardless of how distant one portion of the lava might be from the rest.
Second of all
If I’m frozen (such as by water or extremely low temperatures), it’s just kind of really annoying because rock is heavy and clunky to move, kind of like how I imagine a cast would be.
If you break that solidified me into bits, then it’s actually easier for me to move those sand granules than to move as lava, but I need to recollect those bits to actually get real use out of them, because it’s hard to commit arson as a single, flying particle of obsidian dust, or even a small pile of flying particles of obsidian dust.
This recollection process can take a while, especially if my bits are intentionally scattered, but because matter cannot be destroyed, and I am matter, I cannot be destroyed either.
