As far as we know from what Grian has told us so far, and the lore from ingame, the Doguns have a separate war than the Darkness. Something with the Dwarves nearly wiping them out or somesuch.
not really, There's mob's named "Escaped Dogun" and "Dogun Escapee" Implying they've escaped from somewhere, quite possibly enslavement in the Dwarven mines.
