A new Minecraft player's first reaction when going face to face with a zombie is to spam click the weapon and hopefully kill the monster fast enough. Instead, they only deal half a heart of damage and take ages to kill the zombie. This isn't how you start a game off properly.
And now there's all these new mobs that turn almost every biome into Australia. Everything wants to kill you, from polar bears to shulkers, the new skeleton mobs to magma blocks. It's hard to enjoy a game properly when you have to memorize 250 different killing methods and survival tips.
I'm fine with these new mechanics. They want to make the game harder, do you see how fast AntVenom can speedrun Minecraft? Five minutes. Five minutes to get diamond gear and kill a dragon. They want to make the game hard enough so that beating a DRAGON isnt a piece of cake, let alone getting to it. (continues)
To beat the dragon, you need the Nether. The nether is simple pre-1.10, and post-1.10 its harder and more dangerous. 1.9 improved the End, and 1.8 was just a break, 1.7 was improving the Overworld.
