Ah! If you reference another issue, by using "#abcd", where the letters are the numbers, it happens on its own.

I did that but it just shows up as a comment with a hyperlinked number...

In your original post with the link, that's all you should see. In the issue that you linked to, you should see the reference. The GitHub updates that stuff about every 15 min. if it's really busy, almost immediately if it isn't. Is there a specific issue number that's not working?
