Well, yeah, I've said before how everyone likes mediocre everything aka shit. I think it's because some of us give likes just for the sake of clicking the like button, making the person feel better, or because we like the person that posted it. It's honestly really stupid.
Here, likes determine popularity. It doesn't matter if you post great content on occasions. If you make one good piece of content, then slowly degrade from there, that's how you can very easily get likes.
And because of this, people like myself are often considered nobodies, since I post my "content" very rarely rather than pumping them out consistently to "feed the crowd". I've been around longer than half of you guys in this comment string, yet you guys are far more well known than me. Why? Because you guys have more likes.
Personally, I find this sorta annoying simply because people kinda look at me and simply saying "Oh, he's just some random guy that's been around for a while", rather than being known as "that guy that talked about the thing" or something like that.
This is sorta one of the main reasons why I don't bother with public rants anymore: No one reads them other than some friends I know. It sorta limits the fact that I can express my ideas with people taking them into thought, but what's the point if no one's gonna give a shit anyway? What's the point if no one's actually gonna discuss about it for even a second with people they know? What's the bloody point?
Gar I completely agree with you.
When I joined the forums I looked up to you guys (seum, you, cloudaria, sc1020, mcm and 7k). I wanted to be more around you guys. That's why I became so active. But as I became more active you guys started to fade away, I'm not sure if your overall activity decreased or if you were just being shadowed by the newer active members.
Either way popularity is effected directly by activity and content, to stay popular you have to keep posting content every once in a while.
I still remember you as the popular guys, every time you post a thread I go look at it because for me you are still more popular than me.
And yeah, like you said, there's also the fact that we can very easily get overshadowed by new, more active members, if we don't post much on a daily basis. It's generally kinda painful to be someone that's been here for almost two years at this point, to simply be overshadowed by the new people. Hell, I've even had people from the Dev Team/Staff not know who I am in the slightest.
It pains me to see the previous generation of forumers fade away, it also started to happen to my generation. Hell, it's happening to me. Sometimes I just look at screen shots to remember the old forums.
It's sorta an annual thing at this point. If this keeps going along with the downgrade in content, then I seriously worry about the future of the forums.
While I agree that it can be disappointing to See no one recognizing you, we all know it can't/couldn't stay that way forever. There has to be a place for new members
Also, 32 alerts...
Well, yeah, of course the new members need that spotlight. But the old members are almost completely forgotten; erased from time and space. The few members that actually do remember the old members are the ones who somehow have relevance (or are in the Dev Team).
Think about it this way: Wouldn't it suck if your group of friends kinda just slowly started to drift away from you, then just completely forget about you? Yet those were the best friends you had in your entire life, yet you simply vanished from their perspective.
Gar, I don't want to spam alerts here. If you want you are welcome to copy your argument into a thread and we will continue there.
