The Pz VIII was never battle tested, it was only a prototype and only two were made. One should also consider, "Did the Nazis need a heavier tank?" The Pz IVs were already good enough. Making new tanks with no common parts to other tanks makes repairs extremely difficult - as the Tiger I demonstrated: if you're down, you cant be replaced. Its bad for an economy and its bad for a war.
