Stuff, so what would be a good way to start? Well, I suggest that there should be a leveling system for items in a way by not leveling their defense or maximizing the base health.
I would like to put in a way to customize the traits that are able to put on an item such as causing less damage to the wearer or some resistance to a type of damage.
It could be upgraded and downgraded by combining emeralds and some sort of crafting item to either wipe it`s stats clean or by upgrading it`s resistances. This connects to the armor part only.
This upgrade space will be utlized for making sure that the armor won`t be buffed to a level where one type of armor, gold for example will be stronger than iron.
Of course, there are more ideas that I could keep going on about in more details but you get the gist of it. Now let`s talk about negative effects to these special effects.
A negative effect could be placed as a side effect to having strength just like what I gave in detail number 3. There would be a blindness effect to the extent of your health below 30% next to the strength effect. Other effects for the other ideas would not apply since they are normal traits.
Now, talking about space, you may be asking what is space? I might as well name it a trait platform that adds on the normal and special traits to it`s plate.
Certain armor pieces like leather or iron have different sizes of space. In my sense. Leather would have about 5~7 amounts of "space" compared to Iron that has about 20~22 amounts of "space"
In that space, you would have a set amount of traits that you would be able to pick from. As a small detail that you could consider having the wielder who has the piece of armor get a higher level to unlock the other traits embedded in the choice of your armor.
From each normal trait would be a notifier to how much space that trait takes. Normal traits would always take 1 space while special traits will take 2~3 spaces depending on the armor type and ability.
In order to upgrade the armor piece, you must have the required components in order to make it happen. All upgrades will cost emeralds, and a type of material such as misc items.
A misc item that would make sense to upgrade with is leather that would be upgraded with some emeralds and cow leather plus some chicken feathers and/or bat ears.
A type of diamond armor that can be upgraded with misc items have to be upgraded with rare misc items such as a diamond. (There are actually diamond misc items in the game).
In order to downgrade items, you must have a item called a reset trait (will put a clever name later) which is a letter just like the reset skills in the Tower of amnesia that comes in different types.
A location that the first reset trait could be is in Ragni or Detlas with a secret villager that sells them. The reset trait will probably cost 5~10 EB and will only clean off leather armor traits
Now I have talked about upgrading and downgrading armor pieces. Let me know down in the comments in you like my idea and support it or criticize it in a constructive way, it helps a lot to know if my idea needs help.
