I know I don't have much hope of winning that game, unless via alliance... so I usually just conquer Australia and chill with an over-sized navy until I get wiped out...

AUS is a surprisingly good starting place if you have an alli in the north of Asia. If you can take AUS and move up to take china south + india, most enemy troops will congregate there and leave AUS alone, from where you can frequently send destroyers out to take Africa or S. America-
