They're all just "Dernic" or "Dernic something". We already have a canon name for the trees, that being eyestalk, but the others have nothing going on.
There are two funky names for the fish that I can think of, Anomalopiscus and Petri Fish.
I got nothing for the others

The lore you cite is from a community lore competition. That being said, they should be renamed, and we've talked about potential names internally. I genuinely thought it was gonna be done with Fruma release but I guess not

hi. i'm the guy who wrote the lore for keratoconus, and this thread is actually hilarious to me because, looking back, i have 0 idea how or why i came up with the name eyestalk. the one thing that i am pretty certain about is that at the time i thought it was already an established canonical name. i know this because, in fact, i had no idea until Just Now that i apparently just made it the fuck up, and this revelation has sent me on a journey of meaning and self-discovery that i am now forcing you to experience alongside me.

i started by searching through the discord for any mentions of the word "eyestalk," just because i feel like it had to have come from somewhere before me. this message from 2021 (before i even entered the community) actually gives dernic wood the same name, but i'm almost positive that i had never seen this message before today:
    upload_2026-5-7_13-54-50.png

the first ever mention of the word in wynncord, though, comes from seeksery:
    upload_2026-5-7_13-55-40.png

it was upon seeing the above message approximately 15 seconds ago that i realized: i have no fucking idea what an eyestalk is. is it a real thing? i've never used this word before in my life other than in the very specific and fictional context of this item lore. youre telling me i conjured this word from my delusions AND it's not even an original word?
    upload_2026-5-7_14-1-42.png

cool, i guess. turns out that it has just about nothing to do with dernic wood, and its meaning is so strangely specific that i'm certain that, had i actually known the meaning of this word in 2023, i would never have used it to describe dernic wood in the first place.

after my research break was over, i went back to combing through the wynn discord for more mentions of the word "eyestalk." it turns out there's a LOT of hits, but only for one very specific reason:

oh, hi deusphage. anyway pretty much every single mention of the word was in reference to Grafted Eyestalk, a level 101 necklace with no lore attached:
    upload_2026-5-7_14-6-36.png

is this where it came from? it's possible. i don't remember anymore whether i knew about this necklace back in 2023 (i certainly have no recollection of it at this point), but it does fit the level range of the eyeball forest and, as has previously been established, i had no fucking clue what an eyestalk actually is. so maybe i had seen this item, figured it related to the eyeball forest somehow, and subconsciously associated the word "eyestalk" with dernic wood instead of, you know, the thing that the word actually means.

other than that, no reference to the word "eyestalk" seems to exist in the discord pre-2023, although for the sake of completeness i decided to scroll through the rest of the search results to see if anyone else might have figured out where it came from. hilariously, the only thing i found was other people also getting confused about this same topic:
    upload_2026-5-7_14-14-44.png
    upload_2026-5-7_14-15-5.png

    upload_2026-5-7_14-15-36.png

finally, i decided to also check my discord DMs with closier, since i remembered talking with him about the lore i wrote just before submitting it to the contest. what i wrote makes it clear, at least, that i did genuinely believe they were already called eyestalks:
    upload_2026-5-7_14-22-50.png
    upload_2026-5-7_14-23-10.png

i don't know what message i was referring to specifically when i seemed to imply that deusphage used the name eyestalk. her only uses of the word pre-2023 seem to be in reference to Grafted Eyestalk, except for this one where she refers to an actual eyestalk, like on a snail. you know, the thing that the word actually means:
    upload_2026-5-7_14-25-50.png

for those keeping track, this is the second recorded instance in which, prior to utterly misusing the word in my lore submission, i was exposed to an example of the word being used Correctly and had the full ability to google its meaning. yes, i am a fucking idiot. thanks for the affirmation.

so in the end, it seems like this entire thing came from a completely avoidable misunderstanding in which i incorrectly interpreted deusphage's usage of the word, was told to my face that the word did not mean what i think it did, and decided to ignore that information and use it anyway, which would later inspire a future generation of players to misunderstand the canon name for dernic wood. so like, really it's deusphage's fault, if you think about it enough.

i had literally no idea until today about any of this, so i'd like to thank you for writing this post and bringing it to my attention, because i'm sure this insane post is definitely the kind of reply you expected when you made this benign and innocent thread. thank you. i, for one, think that Eyestalk is a legitimately cool and fitting name for these trees, so i think i'm going to continue my trend of spreading misinformation by using the word as if it was canon and gaslighting people into believing that it is. only we on this thread will ever know the truth.

or who knows, maybe that one guy who gave it that name in 2021 was responsible for this whole fiasco. let's collectively blame it all on him if the content team gets angry at us for spreading misinformation. but you better not snitch, deusphage, or you're coming down with me.

very good in depth examination, cmosier

anyways, if I were to pick dernic names for each prof node, I'd do
    - Macular or Eyestalk Tree
    - Cursed or Black Opal Ore
    - Mutant or Aberrant Fish
    - Bulb Seed

Unless you weren't referring to me (My reading comprehension could be better) the four I listed were actually suggestions I came up with to rename the Dernic Materials to. I didn't actually know the term eyestalk was already a thing mentioned in-game via the community-written loretext

It really does sound like Deusphage's fault when you put it that way.

Honestly, can we hijack this thread to also demand lore for grafted eyestalk?
