    Hi!

    Intro
It's no secret that a well-made Player versus Player (PvP) experience can add immensely to an MMO, providing exciting ways to enjoy the game separate from PvE while earning clout/XP/gear. Here's my thoughts on what a successful PvP gamemode could look like in Wynncraft, respecting the realities of operating on a MC server network.

"Battlegrounds" is a 3v3 King of the Hill gamemode where two teams of 3 players (Red versus Blue) compete on a small map to hold zones that rotate periodically.

    Features*
    • Instanced matches within an enclosed map.
    • Normalized combat. All gear is equalized, meaning that everyone's gear and skill points are equal, the modifications being exclusively in ability tree selection.
    • Zone logic. If the zone has only members of the same team, then that team's score increases by 1 point a second up to 100. Opposing members within the same zone means it is "contested," and no points will be accumulated. First team to reach 100 points wins the match.
    • Respawn timers. Every time a player dies, they are removed from the map for 10 seconds and forced to spectate until their timer is completed.
*All values are made-up and can be changed depending on testing.

It's a simple concept, but it could be the start to developing a fresh and primarily skill-based method to achieve rewards.

I would imagine creating a single map and have it live on the Hero beta for a while, testing out how skills and abilities should interact to have balanced interactions. To me, this would be a very challenging and lengthy part of the process, since it would take major adjustments to skills and health/mana amounts to not have it be a crowd-control (CC) or one-shot fest every match.

However, the payoff would be well worth it: now you have a purely skill-based system separate from Hunted or duels that can be dressed with progression/unique rewards/cosmetics, AND open the door for future PvP modes like 2v2 deathmatch and tournaments. You could really run with this and get so much more into the game (leaderboards, titles, PvP theorycrafting, etc). It's important that the best PvP also provides benefits to your character in PvE.

This is just a dream of mine, but I would love to see it become reality at some point. Wynncraft does so many things at a high-level; it's just too good to be missing PvP at this point. I could keep going, but I'll end it here.

Would love your thoughts on this, cheers!
P.S. - I made a drawing of my concept but don't have enough posts yet to put it in the thread lol. I'll figure out posting it eventually.

I think this would be a cool idea if you could figure out a way for it to be as fair as possible, but with how the classes are right now and the set up, a lot of classes will just take over and be unkillable. If you could figure out the way to set up the skills and hp/mp pools as well as gear I think it's a fine idea. I'm also a big PVPer in MMOs though so I am definitely biased in the way of a dedicated PVP system.

100% agree, the goal would be to keep the feel of the mechanics themselves in use while adding the proper tweaks to make PvP viable. I definitely don't want to discount how much effort it would take with being a whole other ecosystem to balance (health, mana, gear, abilities, movement, attack speed, etc.).

That's what good PvP is all about though, bringing a fresh look to the game where players can showcase skills and compete for rewards/fame using their character.

Fully agree with you on this, I think you could even do something like skills/spells/stats are separated and they have new purely PVP spells and skills. That way it's a bit easier to try and balance it around JUST PVP versus using the current builds with PVP and PVE in mind because obviously things will be crazy with certain skills being used.

this sounds like Wizard Fortress. The issue with this, like festival minigames, is that if it is always available, everyone will get sick of it.

    also maybe chatgpt?

So... imagine something like Wizard Fortress but it's fleshed out with multiple skill trees, unique abilities that align with your character class, and a progression system that rewards you with PvE gear and XP. In addition, imagine leaderboards that show "top kills," "highest levels," and seasonal, unique rewards given to the best players in every 3-month season.

Fun core gameplay + rewards for your character = replayability, just like PvE.

Take Destiny 2 for example, a game where PvE content has been the focus for years, yet the most hours logged in the game are on PvP modes simply because the core PvP gameplay is really, really fun. In our case, it's less a question of just throwing something out there with no support and more of how we could create a foundation to enjoy the game in a different way.

Nah, but I'll take that as a compliment lmao.

EDIT: Looking back on this, my intro line DOES sound like a ChatGPT prompt. The AI gods have poisoned me

There used to be a PVP arena in the past. It was located in the nether

This was many many many years ago on Wynncraft

I'm opposed to making something like this permanent since it kinda goes against the vibe of Wynncraft. It's not meant to a Hypixel-like server, which this suggestions seems pretty similar to. Another thing I'd like to add is that this minigame in particular kinda already exists in the form of Blizzard Brawl.

    It was PvP :D

Sadly, I don't remember the balance of the gamemode personally, since it's been too long (and my memory is prone to gaps after many years)

a bit late to the party but yeah i'd love pvp in wynn, but it would suck if everybody got bored of it after like 2 days like with the old nether. i really think wynn has huge potential for replayable pvp content but also many reasons why it's not super feasible. i feel like it would have to be PERFECTLY executed but idk if it's even worth the effort when more pve content could be added, which is what wynn is meant for tbh.

like look at btb or bftb, at least the former seems pretty popular and fun but queue times can still be very long. i feel like smth similar could happen with pvp content, ESPECIALLY if it's always available. that said blizzard brawl is super awesome sooo

I stand by the fact that wizard fortress was awesome if there ever is some other type of festival added I would LOVE to see it return.

If you haven't noticed, the four festivals correspond to the four seasons.
So unless a God shows up and stretches the year by 25%, adding an evil fifth Season, there's probably not going to be more than the four.

technically wrong from lore standpoint. they happen to be TIED TO the irl seasons, but they arent CAUSED BY them. In lore, if
asters dog died or smth and he was sad, he could just make a new festival for the dog to hang out in detlas. Man is mentally deranged fr fr
