Toggleable shouts when?

Like, could I not have my chat spammed with garbage, or with worthless little square icons?? Kinda detracts from the game trying to /ignore every pointless/annoying shout, especially when they start going off every few seconds like they did today. And you cant ignore staff members either, which isn't helpful when you want your chat cleared of shout spam.

 

Download wynntils and the square icons suddenly make sense. But yea id also like if there wasnt "meow" shouts and shit but it makes wynn money so its not happening ig

 

Unfortunately this mental degeneracy is what keeps the servers afloat, so we're on our own if we want a third-party solution to keep the game somewhat SFW.

And sadly, the "meow" shouts are probably the least archaic of the spam shouts, at least to me. Are the spam, yes. Are they annoying, slightly. Do they compare to people throwing tantrums via /shout? Not at all lol

I don't think people realize that giving people the option to disable shouts isn't going to make shout bombs any less profitable. Guild recruiters will still /shout to try and recruit. Item sellers are still going to /shout to show off their cool item. Spammers are still going to spam. Why? The people who would use the ability to ignore shouts aren't the kind of people that shouters are looking for in the first place. We aren't going to buy your item, we aren't going to join your guild, and we aren't going to engage in your spam. Or buy shouts.

Also, keeping the game SFW is surely important, but my problem is more just with the screen clutter that you either can't ignore (staff members), or takes away from the game in order to ignore. Like, why do I need or want to see "WYNNCRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" in distracting rainbow colors on my screen? And why can't I have the option to just...not?

 

Use a mod (I believe there's one called ShoutTheHellUp or something?)

Anyways I feel like if you shouldn't be getting distracted by every shout. Most of the time when I play I just ignore them. They don't grab my attention or anything, and if they do it's just a glance -- my game experience is unaffected. The only thing that was ever attention grabbing was Zeer's "WYNNCRAFT!!!!", but that doesn't happen often. I think he was just testing a relatively new piece of tech - being that color changing gradient - and wanted to show the playerbase it. Players (and even other staff members) aren't able to do that kind of thing, so that shouldn't be a concern at all.
Also people who shout inappropriate stuff are punished for it.

 

I don't mean to call out Zeer or anyone else directly. The "WYNNCRAFT!!!!" thing is just the most glaringly distracting shout I've come across, which is why I mention it at all.

In regards to /ignore not working on staff - I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with shouts at all. Although I feel like you might just be joking with what you said to be fair.

Unfortunately, I find shouts very distracting. Obviously not everyone will feel the same, however, I imagine a number of people agree. For me they come up often enough to draw my attention away from the game, and in the case of shout storms - where multiple people seem to have full blown conversations via shouts - it becomes hard to focus at all. I also admit I'm a bit of an oddball in this case as I just want to play my game alone, unbothered by anyone else. For that reason I'll likely never complete ???, or raids, or anything that requires multiple people, but I enjoy Wynncraft for the singleplayer experience.

If there is a mod that deals with this issue, I will gladly download it. I just wish the alternative wasn't /ignore on an entire server.

I think you're maybe remembering me shouting rank tags and then somebody else followed with the cutscene fade to black symbol. I wouldn't do that on live servers unless salted paid me

 

Hmm it was on real servers but maybe it was that you shouted some weird emojis and someone else figured out how to do the screen filter using the same method

i recall once seeing on the forums that you said that the a in a circle character made the entire screen black, but i don't actually know.

I have to play on GUI scale 4 to see anything, guild recruitment shouts are nightmarish. I've developed a bad habit of compulsive F3+D-ing my chat when it gets too large now.

if you've never tried playing arcanist, or played with an arcanist, ice snake is the most obnoxious and visually polluting spell closely followed by meteor vomiting

 

I have... I just guess where the enemies are and it usually works out.
That is a fair point to consider though for raids. (I only use it for mob grinding.)

 

I think the response of 'use a mod' in this case is actually viable because most people aren't as disturbed by Wynn's multiplayer aspects as OP. A small number of people who have a unique issue with the system that's easily fixable by a mod is the correct use case. I am personally able to ignore the shouts even when I don't have Wynntils.
