Website & Forums Why the Wynncraft Forums need an update

So, I was viewing the 2012 Hypixel Forums on WaybackMachine, and noticed something. The design of the Hypixel Forums back then looked pretty similar to the Wynncraft forums right now. Keep in mind that this was the Hypixel Forums, in 2012. MORE THAN 12 YEARS AGO.

Although the Hypixel Forums lacked some current features of the Wynncraft forums (e.g. profile posts), Wynncraft forums still look very similar to a Minecraft server forum in 2012.

As you can see, the 2 forums look largely the same, despite being MORE. THAN. 12. YEARS. APART.

Anyways, here are some ideas that would make the Wynncraft forums a better place:

• Ability to react to content with something other than Like
  • Also implement a reaction score system, where positive reacts increase your reaction score and negative reacts decrease it.
• Graphic Redesign of the Forums
  • This can mean a lot of things, from changing some fonts to moving things around.
• More Types of Threads
  • The Hypixel Forums has various types of threads like help/suggestion threads, which can also be useful on the Wynncraft forums. Help threads allow people to upvote/downvote replies in the thread. The creator of the thread can also mark one of the replies as a solution.
    • I think the "Questions" section of the forums can use this feature for obvious reasons.
• Changes to how threads/posts are edited
  • Instead of opening an overlay, the new system allows threads to be edited on the thread page itself.
  • This change will make editing threads much easier.
• Trophy Points/Forum Titles Rework
  • This isn't as necessary as the other ideas but I still think the forums need a trophy rework. I have some ideas for trophies, which can be seen in the spoiler below.
  • All current trophies will be REMOVED and replaced with the new system.
  • Also make it so that we can see the amount each trophy is worth
• Profile Page Rework
  • Please make it so that you can add a banner to your profile.

• More Forums Themes
  • This is another thing that I don't think is that necessary, but more forum themes could always be a good thing, I have written down some ideas below:
  • Some of these themes could even be rank-exclusive!
    • Rekindled (Themed around 2.1/Annihilation) Dark
    • Divine (Themed around Realm of Light) Light
    • Void (Themed around TNA/Silent Expanse) Dark

All of these are not the best. I can’t think of a single one besides the new themes that wouldn’t make things worse

and also, just because a lot of the same features are in place does not mean those features are bad. The American Constitution is hundreds of years old and the people who love everything that it stands for number in millions. (bad example but you get my point. age=/bad)

what would even be used for this? if I like something but don't have anything to say, I like it. If I like something and have something to say, I like it and post a reply. If I don't like it but don't have anything to say, I leave the thread and don't like it. And if I don't like something but have something to say about it, I say that thing.

Moving around replies would get so confusing, so fast. I prefer chronological order. (And while that could be a setting, it would still create confusion for me when people mess up cuz they get confused.)
I don't think Wynncraft Forums needs its own subforum, as the tags exist in General Suggestions, Wynncraft, and (IIRC) Feedback

Ehh. Most of the charm (imo) with trophies is that they don't work well in the slightest.

I would agree with this, but solutions has merit.

 

I mean, yeah, this is a pretty classic forum design that I'm sure was premade and adapted to use by the team, same as everyone else who uses it. But I don't really see why "Hypixel had similar forums" is a reason these forums need to be updated. I mean, one of your suggestions you describe with "This can mean a lot of things, from changing some fonts to moving things around." which sounds like you don't have a specific suggestion, you just think things should be changed for the sake of change. I don't disagree that the forums could use some updates features, but that just feels like random busywork for the team.

I don't mean to be harsh, and again, I agree that the forums could do with some updates, but parts of this suggestion just feel like you want change for the sake of change, which -let's be honest- is never gonna go over well with the forums crowd. A lot of these suggestions are perfectly fine, if perhaps not particularly impactful. Being able to upvote and downvote things would be nice in some circumstances I suppose, although I don't really see that being massively helpful. Same for a forums subforum. I think new themes would be great, and I don't really care about trophies, but why not?

 

As others pointed out, this just seems to be change for the sake of change or to stand out more from Hypixel’s forum (which really isn’t relevant).

Given how dead the forums are, I really don’t think it needs or will fully utilize any of these features.

You mean, like the reactions on the current-day Hypixel forums? I don't see how this would differentiate our forums from theirs, then.

Like Reddit? Please no. That's going to encourage more low-quality posts for score farming, or brigading posts.

Georgia is a font designed for web reading, so I have no problems with it, but I do think a sans-serif option would be nice.

I agree with the others, though, that moving things around for the sake of change isn't productive. If anything, it will confuse old-time forum users.

Don't we already have the General Suggestions section? Also, if I understand correctly, the Questions section is exactly for asking help. I do agree that marking answers as solutions would be useful, though.

Again, upvoting and downvoting reminds me of Reddit, which brings the same issues.

I don't think I understand what you mean here. Do you mean edit a post in the exact same position? Because I have yet to see forum software that does that.

I didn't comment on the other suggestions because I feel neutral towards them.

the forums are too dead to be worth updating at this point. most of the people here are old timers from back when it was more active. we've basically fully embraced discord as the main place to discuss the game with people, so join that instead

 

I'd also like to bring up the reason the forums look the same is because it's using the same platform. Most forum based websites use this same layout

 

In the new system:

• @Salted would have 588 trophy points, giving him the Warrior of Light title
• @captainganon would have 1038 trophy points, giving them the Sky Island Traverser title
  • Same with @Yuno F Gasai
• @WitherWynnic (me) would have 78 trophy points, giving me the Desert Knight title
• @Tzelofachad would have 146 trophy points, giving them the Snowy Sage title
• @Samsam101 would have 413 trophy points, giving them the Warrior of Light title
• @Dr Zed would have 418 trophy points, giving them the Warrior of Light title
• @ThePurpleEmerald would have 203 trophy points, giving them the Snowy Sage title
