Japanese translation

    I propose an official Japanese version so that more Japanese people can play on this mackerel.
    The competing mackerel, hypixel skyblock, supports Japanese, and this should be done for this mackerel as well.

    I would also like to help in that case.

    I would like to start with the quests and then gradually change the names of the weapons.
    The Japanese discord server of the Japanese branch of wynncraft already has 2500 people on it.
    It will definitely have an effect.

    Currently, there is automatic translation by mods, but the accuracy is extremely poor (probably due to the large number of difficult English words), so most people are playing without understanding the quest content.

    Why not introduce an official Japanese version after all?

    I would also like to help in that case.(I'm Japanese)

    that is, unfortunately, basically impossible, even with community support.

    hypickle has more funds also (from where? ahem ahem definitely not milking skyblock players for gems), their staff team AND community team is basically bigger. and more motivated.

    plus the thing is: hypixel runs on SPIGOT 1.8.9, wynn runs on BungeeCord 1.20.2 and above.

    You're going to have to stick with using these for the foreseeable future. If you want to improve upon them, make a mod that functions as a Japanese localization for the game.

    That's a really good example of why this is a good idea, just not a viable one.

    I'm not a dev here, so I cannot speak to the difficulty in implementing this, but creating the translations themselves would be a massive workload, purely because just transcribing all of the text would be a massive workload. If it were official, I think they'd want to have a full team doing it, and it would almost certainly lag behind the main servers for updates without one (maybe even with one). Also, I don't think there's enough of an audience at this point. 2500 people is a lot, but assuming similar levels of involvement as in the main discord, that's only around 2% of the playerbase, going on discord numbers. While there's doubtless more people who would benefit from it, and it would certainly increase the number of people who primarily or only speak Japanese who want to play the server, would it be by enough justify the added dev work?

    I remember a semi-recent post suggesting a translation. The gist of the response was that it was infeasible.

    Wynn isn't particularly large, as dev money goes, and they're already pushing Minecraft to its limits. The translation alone would be very difficult, given the sheer quantity of text in-game (presumably with no centralised dump), never mind the issues with implementation.

    The big thing is like, we'd need in house people fluent in both English and the language wed want to localize, and they'd have to be able to translate every bit of quest dialogue, every bit of item dialogue, all discovery text, secret discover text, quest instructions, items IDs, UI elements, and so, so much more.

    It would either become incredibly outdated incredibly quickly, or slow down everything else.

    Problems with client-side modification-based translations:
    1. Much of the game's content is one-time only per class, which causes the translations of these contents to be practically unverifiable.
    2. Client mods that operate on in-game text currently must match in-game text directly (see Voices of Wynn). Every patch usually contains changes to the game's text, which, even if insignificant, will cause the client translations to fail.

    Sure people could piggyback off Voices of Wynn for translations but still I don't think it would work out in the long run
    Plus it only does quest content

    Maybe just translate all of the quest instructions in the content book and sidebar? Not as much of a solution but way less work and would make quests more doable for this demographic
