Wynncraft caves are cool, but after a while, they get a little boring. I have nothing really against them, but once you are multiple lootruns in, they just feel like the same thing over and over, in slightly different forms. That is why I am proposing an addition to the caves, which is an ambush.

An ambush is exactly what it sounds like. You get to the end of a normal cave, open the chest, but then, the exit is blocked and the floor is smashed under you and you fall into a small room. Once you land, there would be a whole bunch of mobs (see notes on levels below) that spawn and they swarm around you. They could come in mini waves, or just all at once. Your goal is to survive the ambush, which could either be time based or kill them all based, and then you would receive a bonus prize.

    -----------------

    Notes:
This would only happen occasionally, like maybe 1/20 to 1/35 caves or rarer. Not really sure what would be a good balance for the extra loot vs it happening too often. The frequency could also be increased by the Loot Quality ID or something like that, one which appears on gear when entering lots of caves.

There will always be an exit available from the ambush room, in case someone doesn't want to fight more mobs and get more loot. But in order to get the prize, the full ambush must be completed without leaving, or else it gets closed up and cancelled

The mob levels would scale with your level, and the prize with that, but along a shifted bell curve. In more specific terms: The mobs would be within the range of five levels below you to five levels above you, in order to make it a decent challenge. Their level can be randomly assigned within that range, with limits on how many can be above your current lvl. Even if you are in a really low level cave, the mobs would be around the same difficulty as your playing at the time.

The prize is the hardest thing to calculate and figure out how to implement. In order to balance it best, a bell curve, or even just some other random curve, will scale to your level. The closer the level of the cave to you, the bigger the bonus. If you are within five levels of the cave, it can be very strong, such as t1 chests being upgraded to t2, and t2 -->t3. By upgraded, I mean the ambush chest is one tier higher than the cave chest. T3 and T4 chests will not be upgraded, probably only there being an additional chest or some bonus xp as the reward. The farther away from the cave level you are, the less impact occurs. ie. If you are lvl 105, you cannot overuse this and just run a bunch of lvl 70 caves for free t4 chests, lvl 100 gear. There might be slightly more xp added to the completion of caves, or there might be an additional t1 or t2 chest, but it is not massive.

I know there are still a whole bunch of problems with balancing and implementing this idea, but I think it could serve to improve engagement and difficulty within caves. It would make it so randomly, there is a burst of adrenaline as you are forced to survive against mobs that can kill you, and will, if you are not ready.

    Thanks,
