Suggestion: Implementing a Server-Side Translator to Support Non-English Content Creators

    Hello Wynncraft Community,

I've noticed that there are very few non-English YouTubers and streamers creating content about Wynncraft. I believe this is primarily because the game is only available in English. While there are some translation tools, they are often inadequate and hard to find. When someone wants to try out the game, they don't want to spend 20 minutes preparing just to understand it.

The main issue is not that players can't understand English, but that it's a burden for content creators to translate the text for their viewers. If they read the text in English, it breaks the flow for the audience. As a result, there is virtually no influx of German players through YouTubers – it's mostly through recommendations from friends.

In the endgame, there are far more German players than in the early game. Most new players come from English-speaking regions or countries where English is taught from an early age, like Sweden or the Netherlands. I believe this issue can be addressed by implementing a server-side translator.

Such a translator could make the game more accessible to large communities, such as the German or French ones, which have a significant digital presence in gaming communities. In the endgame of Wynncraft, there are many influential players who are German, like Maarcus or krokofant. The same is true in Hypixel Skyblock, where German players often achieve impressive feats – for example, the first player to max all skills was German.

I am convinced that a server-side translator that works without additional mods would lead to much more international content about Wynncraft and, consequently, a larger player base because the server would be more accessible. Even I, who can speak English, don't watch videos where the creator speaks German but reads the dialogue in English or only roughly translates it.

This could also help Wynncraft tap into new communities, making the game more popular worldwide.

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts and hope we can find a solution together to make Wynncraft more accessible for everyone!

    Best regards

External modifications fulfill this role a lot better, and don't demand for us to divert dev time towards making a translator.

External translators are impractical because as a new player 1) I don't know that they exist and 2) installing and implementing them in the game costs at least a restart of the game. If it's a streamer who spontaneously decides to play Wynncraft, it may take him too long.
You should at least give new players a hint that there are translators.

I'm the inverse, an in game translator would take hundreds of times longer.
This is a salted thing and not a me thing, but I don't think mods are really advertised in game, given that one of the selling points of the server is that it is mod-free. Even for the official collaboration with lunar, I don't think there was an in game mention. I know that there's also a potential risk in promoting external mods, being it's possible to backdoor a mod by any given malicious users, or for the files to become infected by nasty bugs like Whatever-Became-of-Fracturizer

I don't know exactly how the Wynncraft quest system works, but I don't think it's too complicated. At the end, a player's data is queried to determine the quest status. If you can retrieve the language the player speaks from the data, you could adapt all dialogues accordingly. Translating each individual quest would probably take the longest, but this shouldn't really take long if you do it in co-operation with the community (where the demand is greatest, there will be the most volunteers).
An in-game translator would take 0 seconds for the player and the effect will be that larger communities of content creators will have easier access to the game. Many viewers complained during my Wynncraft Let's Play 4 years ago that it was difficult to follow the flow of the game because I present in German, but read out the quests in English and summarise them in German at the end. Different languages have long been standard in video games and most of the big Minecraft servers. Story and quest-based games in particular are rarely only in English.

Trust me, if it could've been implemented into the game, it would've. The issue is that it's an insane amount of work just to make Wynncraft available on other languages than English on server-side. And that's before proofreading and other quality control checks these translations have to go through.

The closest thing players can have right now are client-side mods (which carry their own risks) or using the wiki. Wiki has translations of (nearly) every quest in the game in various languages, but you have to second-monitor them, which runs the risk of getting spoiled.

    Ah ok, i understand

But wouldn‘t fix the problem for Content Creators. The 1:1 translations mostly bad and you can‘t switch in a let‘s play between wiki and game every 2 mins

And you think that wouldn't be also a problem with an ingame translator?
How many of these big Minecraft servers have literally tens of thousands of pieces of text that would have to be translated? Just in mob names alone, there are ~10000 mobs.

Yes, an ingame translator would have a specific style and is much better written so not only 1:1 translations
I mean voices of Wynn did it too, wouldn‘t be that hard

Last I checked Voices of Wynn doesn't narrate the names of enemies, areas, names of events、dungeons、caves、raids、lootruns, miscellaneous text, etc.
Those far outnumber the amount of dialogue that VoW narrates.
