Tl;dr: npc to remove challenge modes

This npc would have a skin like the normal eyeless lutho citizens, but have four chains of energy: one red, one blue, one yellow and one purple. As you might of guessed, these represent the four challenge modes: Ironman, hunted, craftsman and hardcore. You can only see this npc while in a challenge mode class, and it would be right next to the corrupted soul merchant. Interacting with him brings up dialogue options related to the bindings you have selected (I chose the name bindings because in hollow knight, there are four challenge modes called bindings in a boss rush, and I thought it seemed similar)

If we continue the hollow knight references, the dialogue would start something like this:
Higher beings, these words are for you alone. (by the way, you have to complete a hunters calling to even talk to the binding breaker) These restrictions you placed on yourself shall be no more, for I can destroy the curses when nobody else can.

    [1] Remove Hardcore
    [2] Remove Ironman
    [3] Remove Craftsman
    [4] Remove Hunted
[5] I need more time to think

If you select one of the remove options, an animation plays with a chain around you with the specific color related to that binding, while particles explode in that color around you. Finally, glass is heard shattering, the chain breaks, the rare achievement sound plays and the Binding Breaker says: “It is done. The curse is removed.”

When you talk in chat after having one of your bindings broken, that binding will be greyed out, like when you die in hardcore (when you die in hardcore now, there is an x through the icon).

This is a cool idea but I think that it should cost a lot of money and some soul points like when you create a guild.

I’m not really for this suggestion because it diminishes the impact of those game modes by being locked into them. Especially since they’re meant to be challenges. Sure, you would’ve already beaten the game at that point, but with the Fruma expansion coming out that won’t be the case anymore. If you really don’t like a game mode, then simply don’t play it to begin with or level up a new class.

No. Especially since Lutho won't be the final city for long.

Y'all are saying that it's not a good suggestion because the npc would be in Lutho, but it can also be moved to a higher lvl location if the cap gets increased. Maybe it would be more useful to discuss if a mechanic like this would be good to have, without necissary looking at the exact location or lore.
I have no idea if it's a good idea btw, I haven't reached endgame yet.

I understand, I just wanted to open up the discussion a bit since 1,5 out of 3 comments so far mentioned this problem, while I feel like it's not really the point of the suggestion

The point of the suggestion is to remove challenge modes. The game doesn't end once you complete all your quests, and you shouldn't be able to remove any of them. Challenge modes should permanently be a part of that character profile

Solid idea, makes sense, I think that making gamemodes removable after ahc is a good idea (even if it might not be the highest level quest) as you have proven yourself, plus the whole theme of endings, plus it makes sense lore-wise. At least it makes more sense than some drunkard or mage in a grand citadel's back alleys. I like the idea of chains being broken as well. Very cool.

I don't see the problem with removing challenge modes from a class except Hunted. Hunted offers an XP boost which for normal progression is unobtainable before completing AHC. For Ironman, Craftsman, Hardcore, there is really no reason to lock a class into those modes forever. Instead of being an NPC however, it could be locked to being the highest possible combat level..? as a game mechanic.

EDIT: I just saw the last bit, about retaining greyed out challenge mode icons. I think this should be removed if it is implemented. If you leave the challenge mode then you do not get any icon, as if you created the class with no challenge mode to begin with.
