    When I get pinged on the forums, I need to be actively looking at the forums page to see it. This makes it difficult if I want to try to have a life but still know what is happening.

    For example, this thread. I need to know when someone has posted in it.
    I propose that there could be an opt-in/out option for getting a notification outside of the tab. Like a discord ping on my phone/computer.

    FYI I am not a coder so I don't know if this is possible or not, but I would like it.

    Your Preferences let you "receive email notifications of replies" and your Contact Details let you "Receive email when a new conversation message is received." I've never used either of them, however, so I don't know if they cover all your needs.

    My issue with the email preference is that is doesn’t solve my problem. I still would need to have my email open and constantly looking at it; also, email is very slow compared to a ping/push notification.

    They usually work nice, however it is fun to have 2000+ unread email notifications.

    on mobile they give a notif right when they come unless something went wrong


    a "normal" ping would be nice tho

    I (and others) don't always use mobile; when I do, the email has to be marked as "Important".

    I will try the email method for the rest of the week so that I can have a better understanding.

    Alright, I tried it. I know it's sunday shhh
    I got one email, and it didn't even notify me even though I marked it.
    So, the email method either isn't viable or I need to do further testing. Would anyone like to join me?

    As a JS coder I will say:

    It would be possible to give desktop/mobile notifications from forums using a service worker, as far as I know (I don’t have experience with it though). The one flaw would be that the service worker will shut down when you close all your forums tabs, but as long as you leave it open in the background, this is certainly feasible to add.

    TLDR: could be done, just isn’t yet
