    Introduction:
Treasure chests are a special type of chest that can give better rewards for more work. They are specialized chests which you get rarely and are found randomly in the map. The idea in its core gives players more ways to earned items.

    How to obtain:
Treasure chests will not be found in the wild, you will have to obtain a treasure map.

Treasure maps are a rare drop through opening loot chests, grinding mobs, competing raids, and even gathering. Treasure maps when opened will show a random area on the Wynncraft map based on your combat level.

Example: A level 90 character will get a treasure map anywhere from Ragni to Molten Heights. However, they will not get a treasure chest in Lutho or Sky Islands.

    How treasure maps work:
When opening the map, there will be a some sort of hint leading you to a location so you can receive your treasure chest and earn your rewards. The map will give you some sort of hint telling you where to go. This hint can vary from a detailed map of the terrain, a set of coordinates, a quote, a riddle, and possibly even a name of an NPC.

    Example 1:
This is a map from Skyrim that shows the terrain, the location of the treasure and how to get there. This would be an easier map to solve as it gives you a very unique surrounding to a specific location.

    Example 2:
This is a map which I created and it gives you a hint of where approximately the location of the treasure is. Hopefully, you guys will be able to figure out approximately where the location of this treasure chest will be. This should be about medium difficulty as it is a reference to a specific area. Tell me where it could approximately be in the comments.

Example 3: This example is from Runescape, it gives difficult riddle that give you all you need to know where to find your treasure chest. This would be difficult at the start, until people will recognize each challenge and find the treasures at light speed.

    Once at the location:
Once reaching the location there will be an event of some kind. This event will require you to do a simple task of some kind could be combat, puzzle, digging up the chest or even an NPC interaction. Only after completing this part of the puzzle you will earn your reward of a treasure chest. This treasure chest is similar to the chest that exists in raids, as it is a block you open. Every time you complete an event, the chest will spawn and will be on some sort of platform so you can see it easily and reach it safely.

Example 1: You are lead by the treasure chest all the way to Sky Islands, and you get attacked by Sky Pirates who tried to steal from you. Instead, you notice that one of them has a treasure chest and you get into combat and collect the treasure chest.

Example 2: Let's say you are lead to the Twain Graveyard. You will see a ghost, telling you to help it find the grave of their parents. Once finding the grave, they will give you a the treasure chest which they had nearby their own grave.

Example 3: Once reaching the location, you might see the treasure chest poking out from a rock, so you will have to go get a pickaxe to break such rock to collect the chest.

Example 4: If you get a treasure map that leads you to the Nivla Village you might get an event in which you see Yahya attempt on selling the treasure chest to a merchant just so he can get another bowl. You will approach him and he will tell you to buy him a bowl and give him 6 red mushrooms and 6 brown mushrooms, and only then he will give you the treasure chest.

These are quick examples of many scripted situations that can exist in this mechanic inside of the game, and it could lead to many strategies being developed and lore given.

    What is inside:
There will be multiple random kinds of treasure chests. Ingredient chest, item chest, powder chest, and miscellaneous.

When opening the chest the game will choose any of those chests at random, and they will be filled with those items purely with higher tier loot and more loot. This is because the player worked to get to the chest, and should be rewarded.

Example: If the gets an ingredient chest they will only get ingredients in the combat level range of the area which are t1 and above. There will be more t1 ingredients than t3, but there will still be there.

Pros and Cons: (to be continued)
    Pros:
    • New players will explore the map more and find new places.
    • Players will have more ways of obtain items, more diversity.
    • It will add a new possible end game activity.
    • More lore may be added.
    • An active way to collect items and explore the world.

    Cons:
    • This will take a large sum of new maps to create.
    • People might not want to travel and collect the treasure chests.
    • This will take a huge amount of time and generally work as making cutscene for each event will be tedious and terrible
    • This will take a lot of time to refine and create such system. (Comment by @JaydonTheWarrior)

    Solutions:
    • If the server cannot use maps, the server can be solve this with a piece of paper named with a hint or a location.
    • If people don't want to use the maps, they should be able to sell them so other people can use them.
    • The amount of time to create this system will take a long time, but splitting it into small parts would be simpler. Make four at first, and every major update add a few more to the collection until you have a satisfactory amount of treasure locations.
    • Have specific locations for each treasure. There would not be infinite possibilities and there would be hand made treasure areas. This leads to the issue of players remembering locations, but if a player puts the time to remember each location, they should be rewarded for it with faster runs. (Comment by @JaydonTheWarrior)
    • There are no many solutions to the amount of work required, except the main one which is cutting corners.
    Thank you:
@JaydonTheWarrior for giving me criticism and helping the project. Truly, thank you.

Hm, I was gonna say that this is already a thing in form of t3 or t4 chest but reading further and seeing the treasure map idea, this feels like a good idea, probably guild objective levels of loot, and also gives incentive to explore low level area at endgame.

Thank you very much, I was going for something that would encourage people to still explore all of Wynncraft even if it is not in a main city. After exploring you should get rewarded of course. Thank you again.

I love the idea, the issue is I'm not sure it's entirely possible.
First off, I don't believe there's a way to generate a map with a red X on it, so that's one issue.
The second issue is that in order to have a teleport to a separate instance of what looks like the same area, you need a duplicate of that area that the player can teleport to.
The second is actually possible to randomly generate, but it would require a whole fuck ton of work.

The obvious solution to both of these is to make the locations not entirely random, instead having hand-placed locations.
This has some added benefits and drawbacks:
For one, the locations being hand placed means that they will be in better fitting places.
The second being that the Treasure Maps can be more interesting than just an X over a location, I think it would be fun to have Skyrim like maps to really engage people in the world, like this:

The negatives are that people will be able to learn these locations over time.
As well as this becoming less systematic, and more... just a lot of work for a few GMs.

Either way, love the idea, just don't this is possible for this to be 100% random.

I do agree with you with completely in terms of this is very difficult, as it is a complicated system. I do completely understand the Wynncraft team is not a huge one, but this feature or a slight twist on it would be a great idea.

About the random locations idea, I do agree that creating something on that scale would be much more difficult. So I completely agree with you and prefer your idea of having consistent locations. The "negative" of players remembering where the locations are is not a negative from my perspective. If a player puts in the effort of remembering all the locations, they deserve to have quicker finishes.

When you stated that we cannot generate a map with a red X on it, I am almost sure it is possible, as take for instance the missing posters which are in Olux (seen in the picture below). This is might be a custom map which is put on an item frame, and I assume if you can make a missing poster adding an X on already existing terrain wouldn't be impossible. Yet, I do still believe that your idea of having a custom map which gives slight hints is much better, but could take more work than inserting an X to a map. I do still agree that this will be a tedious task, but in theory a worthwhile one.

Also it is probably my fault, but I am not sure you understood what I meant with the teleport mechanic. You stated "...in order to have a teleport to a separate instance of what looks like the same area..." I didn't mean have the same area, you will just get teleported to a different room completely, not have the same terrain. So there will be a teleporter of some kind, that will teleport you to a different location with no outside view with a puzzle. With more thought, maybe there could be local puzzles/boss fights which are a lazier and easier route to the same idea. Once you reach the location, the game would automatically spawn a boss at the location to get an item to dig up the treasure chest.

Hopefully this goes into a little more detail. I will add your criticism to the original post and refine it. Thank you for the response.

This issue is generating the X on the map.
The custom maps are in fact what they use in order to correct different posters around the world, but they aren't the issue.

Also yeah, this solves this problem.

Anyone familiar with Runescape's treasure trails?

This reminds me of that. I would not mind seeing your idea in the game. Even if they'd need to make spots themselves by hand, it could be worth the effort in my opinion.

Would LOVE to see this in Wynn, so much parts of the map is always neglected as I think most players just stay on the path
