Bring Back The Nether (and Balance Changes)

The nether was one of my favorite things to do when I was bored at level 75 pre-gavel. It was a fun challenge for high level people who werent really challenged by much (save for Reincarnation) and it was a good chance to test yourself and your build against other people. Sadly, this was removed, and now all we level 106s have to do late-game is to do raids (which arent really that challenging now), professions(god save your sanity) or just start a new class due to the lack of real challenge once you beat the game. I understand why there arent many late game things for max level players to do, as that requires coding and constant updates to keep players' interest. Hunted mode is obviously a thing, but lets be honest, most people either play hunted characters as a flex to show how good they are, or use them for professions. Never have i seen two hunted people in the wild actually using it for PVP against each other. Partly because some builds and items are just too overpowered (like toxoplasmosis, SERIOUSLY, it's too broken to stay in the game and be used for PVP), so one way to fix this is to balance these overpowered items, or at least nerf their PVP capabilities (like how some stats are nerfed when fighting other players). Once these balances are introduced, and PVP becomes a fair and fun experience, bring back the Nether! It was fun place to test your skills, fight against other people and generally have fun late-game. Perhaps add new maps too, and possibly a small reward for winning, just to keep players' interest. This will be a challenging test for players. It should work relatively similar to old school nether. no items should be lost in the nether, so that you can have fun using your favorite items without the risk of losing them (*cough* HUNTED MODE *cough*), dying has no penalty and you can get back into fighting if you die, and perhaps even add new things like maps or wandering minibosses to kill for loot or temporary buffs. There's just so much fun to be had in the nether with PVP, anyone who played this pre-gavel knows how fun it was, back when toxoplasmosis didnt exist, overpowered mythics didnt exist, and max level was 75. I would like this to be considered, and mabye build upon. Perhaps new maps, a sort of battle royale mode where if you die, you dont respawn until next round, and perhaps even parties where you can team up with another player to fight! there's so much possibility with this, and im still not sure why the nether was removed in the first place, but for the sake of late-game players lacking REAL challenge, it should be brought back. really no reason not to, you wouldnt lose items and it would just be a fun way of challenging yourself late game

 

I'm guessing that the nether was removed so it could be made into a plot-relevant area with quests and stuff and not just a pvp arena

Pretty sure it was removed in 1.19 which was super early last year

 

In the same update that added hunted - which I think was meant as a replacement.

Sounds good, but I believe that there would be a better way to implement this, I love the idea, just think it could be changed up and fixed a little bit. Think it would be a nice idea, but I don't think it should be implemented like this exactly, I definitely think this would be a cool idea though!

 

nah it was definently removed before 1.19 unless I'm stupid. There was a gap in time with neither Nether or Hunted existing, it was removed sometime during 1.18, possibly on its release

 

Iirc it was removed around 1.18

Afaik the Nether was removed because almost no one used it. I don't think I have seen players there more than once or twice.

Also it doesn't make that much sense from lore PoV, though an overworld colosseum could work if made properly.

 

What if the real Corruption, was the fighting amongst each other? :thonk:
