Since I get dozens of Morph Stardusts every day from only playing a couple hours each day, keeping my Morph Stardusts to sell on the Trade Market has become a problem. All of my Trade Market slots are full, and my stored Morph Stardusts now take multiple pages in my bank. I haven't come across another post like this one since their nerf, so I figured I'd do the math for myself and share it: Should I identify my Morph Stardusts? This math was performed in 1.20.1.

If you don't want to read the math: No, you shouldn't. Just sell them to a blacksmith unidentified. Here's the math I used to come to this conclusion, and if I made any errors or overlooked anything please let me know.

    Base Emerald Values:
    Unidentified Sell Profit: 6 - 18
    ID Cost: 158
    Identified Sell Value: 73 - 219

    Identifying, then selling: (73-158=-85) - (219-158=61) ➔ -85 - 61 (Avg. -12)
    Average unidentified sell: 6+18=24 ; 24/2=12 ➔ 12
Result: Identifying then selling produces a net loss of 24 emeralds on average.

    Trade Market:
I've made a habit of selling any Morph Stardust I get on the Trade Market for 200e (before tax) per, regardless of its stats. Despite this low sale price, I only sell around 1 Morph Stardust per day with multiple listed at a time. Nobody has to sell at this amount, but it works as an example value.

Assuming 1 Morph Stardust is sold each day, there would be a profit of 42 emeralds per day. Comparing that to the un-ID sell value's average, the relative profit (compared to selling at the blacksmith) is 30 emeralds. So, selling on the Trade Market would trade 1 real-time day for a 30-emerald profit. In my opinion, that isn't worth it. I'd rather save time at the relative cost of 30 emeralds.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason you decided to store that many in the first place? Nothing wrong with it, it just seems like an excessive amount of morph stardusts.

Laziness. That, plus a mix of IDing-habit and experimentation.

Do you use morph? Since I do, I always ID them just in case I get a better one.

Nah, I haven't put research into a specific loadout yet. I'm just using the best individual piece I've naturally come across.

Out of the stardusts I've IDed though, I kept the one with the best stats in case I use it in the future.

do you mean you shouldn't just sell a blacksmith AFTER they're identified?

If you've already identified it, go ahead and sell it to a blacksmith. This thread is supposed to answer whether Morph Stardusts should be identified or not to begin with.
