Website & Forums Update Help Page

First off, why? Who really uses it? We have wynndata and wiki!

Well, argumenting with "too much work and Wynndata is a thing" is the same thing as "Pinned quests (or most QoL features) are too much work, Wynntils have it"
You are saying that you don't need to make something because it is already made, but the problem is that it was made by third party, meaning it is not official. (Now I want to note that I don't think Wynntils or Wynndata are bad, but they are not official and some people might be sceptical to 3rd party software. Although Wynntils is open source I don't think anyone made the time to look through all lines of code and understood it)

Second reason why to do it:
Most people do not know about wynndata
(wynntils is used by abour 1/3 of users, wynndata is propably more), meaning many people who need it won't get the help, because they are not able fo find it or the info is outdated.

Third reason for why to do it:
It improves the reputation.
I heard many people asking when will be wiki 1.19ed so it is up to date. This gives it a bit of bad reputation of being constantly outdated (which is true btw) and for good reason.
Now look at the official help page with pictures from pre-gavel era (no texture pack).

Issues:
Quests - images do not work
Loot - no mention on obtaining or what for example dungeon keys; IDs exist or how they work, all work left for wiki
Guilds - outdated from pre-Gavel era, it WILL need update in 1.20 or an army of abducted editors for wiki (preferably both)
Commands - some are missing like /toggle 100, /toggle playerghosts
Dungeons - corrupted versions images are missing (the wiki would really appreciate them btw)
Powders - no explanation on the abilites or other effects
Soul Points - please update the image, memtion that you lose items when below 6 soul points would be nice
Nether - exists
Item guide - lacks fabled and relik categories, compared to wynndata seems useless
Professions - doesn't exist

My issues:
F.A.Q - doesn't exist
Where-to-report-bugs (aka panic) - doesn't exist

PS: it is 1:30 AM for me so pls don't kill me if some things are nonsense, just point it out

You need to remember the majority of players aren't active in the community so most of them don't use any mods. The truth is that for a player that doesn't know how anything works it's easier to come on the forums and post a random thread.

This is why this should be implemented - the official help page would then contain all the information needed so they don't have to post a random thread.
It makes more sense to go to 'Help' not 'Forums' when you are stuck or need help.

Okay, so I am a random guy that needs help on Wynncraft:
I go to the website.
I look in the navigation bar.
I see 'Help' with a big question mark.
I click on the Help page.

Right now:
I see there is nothing useful on there and I quit and go back to HSB
Or I go to forums and post on there.

Fixed Help page:
I look through the categories to find what I am looking for and I am helped
Or I don't find exactly so I ask for clarifications on forum.

It's that simple.
I'm not sure how I would know about forums unless I checked.

Yes, but if the page is updated hopefully there would be an FAQ or something, so at least there would be less obvious questions on the forums.
This isn't designed to stop random questions, though, it is designed to help with things that it should help with, basic information that is essential to the game and would be helpful for new players, or players who are considering joining, or older players who want to learn the new stuff.

 

i agree we should update the help page, but as someone who has been active when it was up to date in the past a ton of people still came on the forums to ask questions

When I first joined I look at the wiki more than the help page ;-;
In 90% of the time help page doesn't really help because currently you can actually learn how stuff works just by looking at the ID's name (any bonus, health, walk speed) or actually experience them from your gameplay. Also some aspects in the game are really explicitly mentioned (like soul points)

But yes the item and powders guide is absolute shit

Just add a column to the right with 3 new menus. It fits perfectly. Add Professions, Ingredient / Crafting guide, Gathering Guide, Gamemodes (Hardcore Ironman Craftsman) and remove Nether.

 

There is still plenty of outdated stuff
