Hello everyone,

Salted made a terrible mistake. The channel emojis that were recently added are probably the worst addition to the Discord I have seen in the three years I have been in there.

They make usability worse

When you try to redirect someone to some specific channels, different channels will come up as the first option due to the emojis



The colours don't go well together

For example, wynncraft's green/blue is right above question's red and they just conflict and look kind of weird, especially since the other emojis are not so bright and draw wayyyyy less focus.

They feel kind of forced

I mean, these emojis just add nothing to the Discord to be honest.. They make the channels look clunky and a bit jarring, normally they look pretty clean - the emojis just don't fit man. Most large Discords that I have personally been a part of that tried to use emojis for their channels reverted back to using none after a week or so because no one found them appealing. I guess having emojis would make it """"EASIER"""" for someone to grasp what the channels are there for, but only people that for some reason refuse to read channel names ever have problems with navigating to the right channels, and anyone who is genuinely unsure of which channel to use would usually ask in #questions or get redirected to the right channel after asking in the wrong one [emojis make this harder because of my first bullet point...]

People not using the right channels is moreso a fault of the confusing naming of some channels, like #planning_parlour, which most new people don't realise is for asking for in-game help, since again, people refuse to read channel descriptions.

A lot of active members dislike the emojis

Not sure if this can really be a valid point, but a majority of people I talk to seem to be against the emojis, and these are the people that make up the majority of traffic on the Discord

I have seen lots of negative remarks about the channel emojis, but I have not seen any positive ones.

To be completely honest, this is a very minor and insignificant "issue" but I feel like it should be pointed out. Just another thing is: The system before this was perfectly usable. There was no reason to add emojis, they just made a good system worse. Please don't come at me with "huehueh you have to press a couple more keys" shit

Wow, I cannot believe you, Salted, would do such a thing. I am utterly disappointed in what you have done to this channel, what used to be a town square for intellectuals to hang out has been reduced to a single emoticon. You need at least 200 IQ to even comprehend the humor the channel has given to us. And you simply reduced it down to a mush of filth and disgust. I hate you SaltedSalmon, you ruined my experience.

Me personally I'm indifferent about the emojis. My only issue is that they didn't have either all emojis or no emojis, and did a few of the channels. I think they should either get rid of them or just add them all

 

that's a stance that I can respect, though I feel like all channels having emojis would bother me lmao

Move the emojis to the end of the channel names

 

I still feel like they would look pretty bad and be pretty unncesssary, but that would get rid of the redirecting issue

Yes, they absolutely should remove them.

 

Still haven't seen any reasons as to why they should remain or have been enacted in the first place, would love to hear some.

Please don't burn me alive but I actually quite like them, I haven't been on the discord for awhile but from the description you put it made them sound HORRENDOUS but, I mean come on they're not thatttt bad
