So, I've gotten a bit of an idea for mythics. Right now, at least in my opinion, mythics aren't all that interesting. They're really really rare things that are gotten by pure chance and are better than the average item. I feel like mythics could be made a lot cooler though by just changing how you get them while still making them just as hard to get. There would be no change to the mythics themselves. I was thinking that there could be a place where you can go through and look for a specific mythic you want. Once you find where it is you enter a portal and are presented with a challenge you need to complete to get the mythic that also ties to the lore of said mythic.
One example of a challenge I thought up was for the mythic spear Hero. It would be a warrior specific challenge where you are given the task of defending a city, and npcs in said city, from waves of mobs that get harder and harder. The first waves would be really easy, but you'd eventually be fighting hundreds of high level enemies that are trying to kill the npcs in the city. But once you get far enough and all hope seems lost, you get the mythic spear Hero which you will be able to use in this specific challenge no matter what your skill points are set to. If you succeed the challenge you end up with Hero as it is now, but if you fail you have to restart the entire thing.
What do people think of this?

Nice idea, and I would also like to see more of the lore in the gameplay, but isn't that basically just like discovery items then? The problem is, I don't think it's possible to replicate the difficulty in getting mythics because it's entirely up to luck, and if they do get made easier to obtain, well obviously those people who have and have spent a ton of time collecting them would be very upset. Maybe if they were made into super rare drops (obviously not as rare as they are now, and maybe not affected by lootbonus) in limited time (maybe random?) events like what you described, it would be plausible. That way, it will maintain the rareness of the item (both the drop itself and the event that needs to occur) while also making it much more interesting.

I do think balancing would be a really hard thing to do seeing as it would need to be hard enough so that it takes skill to do a challenge, but not so hard that it's basically impossible to do. I don't think there should be random chance in getting them however. If you complete one of the challenges (which would be stupid hard), you should get a really good reward for it. The biggest problems would just be balance and getting ideas for all of them.

Maybe specific types of mob drop specific types of mythic, e.g. Fire damage based mobs drop fire mythics, water damage based mobs drop water mythics etc.
No changes to the drop rates, just a way to kind of hone in on a specific type of mythic if that's what you want.
Chest would stay the same too, I guess.

This would require there to be lore with the mythic shaman reliks (which I hope they add)

I would say no. Not in the current state of content.

Maybe in a few years, when advanced fights that aren't based around stat sticks are created.

I feel like making mythics easily accessible through quests/dungeons would really piss off people who spent hours grinding for mythics.

It would be a lot better if underpowered mythics were made more unique. Right now, a lot of unique mythics are some of the strongest in game (cata giving you massive -hp countered by massive damage, Warp having huge downsides in exchange for huge combat potential), while the more standard weapons are considered somewhat weak (monster having no really defining features, none of the warrior mythics having significant downsides in exchange for huge upsides). Mythics that follow the cata archetype (big downsides for big upside) are generally the most interesting and powerful, especially if the downside can be countered. I realize that every mythic follows this in some way, but the more extreme cases are generally stronger. Giving grimtrap stronger life steal and way high damage (maybe very slow attack speed to embrace heavy melee?) in exchange for -health regen could make it interesting.

problem with this is that mythics if obtained this way would be way way way easier to get than getting them the normal way through lootrunning. Like somebody said before me, discovery items fill that gap. The economy would fucking explode if mythics were distributed this way. Even if the challenges were apprently super hard, I literally doubt that they will be hard in wynncraft. It's either you make the fight easy or make it literally impossible. There is no inbetween because people can just overpower everything in the game with builds. Mythics can't be changed in their drop rate, and the devs know that, so they made fabeled and discovery items to try to fill that gap between legendaries and mythic power levels.

tl;dr: mythics can't be dropped like this cause fucks up economy and either the fight to get them would be easy or literally impossible.

So, I think some people might be misunderstanding what the challenges would be. Yes, there would be some combat challenges, but most would not be. Also, I do think the idea of making them untradable might work, but then you'd need to do something about mythics already on the market. I do agree that balancing would be extremely difficult though and would easily be the biggest challenge.
