Hello folks! As of recently, the Item Team has had a fair amount on our plates. We’ll have to get another team thread up and running, but that’s not what this is about. Today we’d like to start a discussion with you guys and gather some important feedback regarding a particularly touchy topic:

    Mythics

Recently, as mentioned here alongside the addition of Major Identifications, there will be some new regular identifications as well. As you likely know individual mythics have been kept mostly as they are (conceptually) with some numbers changes here and there to affect their balance and gameplay. However, there have not been any sweeping reworks since their introduction. That being said, with new identifications coming we don’t want mythics to feel left behind since some of these identifications will be significantly impactful to gameplay.

    Here is our question:

Should we change mythics in a significant way to incorporate new identifications?

Why are we making a unique thread regarding this? There are two main reasons.
    1) Adding new identifications gives the new ID a completely random roll regardless of current stats on the item.
    2) Old stats will likely have to change to facilitate this.

To clear up some potential confusion (this will be added onto as more common questions are asked):
    - This will not mean they are overhauled. Their concept and gameplay will remain unhindered and likely enhanced.
    - This is specifically about new identifications being added, not old ones such as melee damage/mana regen etc.
    - This will not come with any form of resetting/compensation such as resetting the reroll count on existing mythics.
    - This will not reset mythics into an unidentified state. They'll remain as they are with their current stats but the new ones will be randomly rolled.

yes, but I would consider not adding new identifications with a random roll.

Would it be possible instead to make these new ids have a roll based on the other identification rolls?
Example: I have a shit mythic, every stat < 30% => the new id will also have a bad roll ... A godly mythic, with identifications averaging 90%, would have the new id at around 90%.

This way bad items will remain bad and good items will remain good. Yes the new ids may change a mythic making it "bad" when before it was "good" but at least this way (I hope) most of the players would still be happy because their new mythic is still comparable to the old one.

That would be very epic, although my chances of ever holding a mythic are less than 0%, but cool for the people who would use it

This works in some cases, but there are other cases where this would be pretty detrimental. Prime example is a Cata with max health and mediocre other stats - if it gets another important stat, you end up with a much more mediocre Cata.

I still support this though, it's better than random.

As long as all of the new ID's fit in with the playstyles of the mythics they go on, I am all for the unique ID's on mythics, and the new ID's as well. Just hoping that they won't negatively impact mythics, or devalue them. From what we saw, the new ID on guardian was pretty bad, I get that it fits in with the tank role, but you'd constantly be dying. Perhaps something like just buffing allies defenses/hp that are x blocks away or less from you? If those concerns are addressed, it seems like it would add another element to end game builds, I think adding them would be a great addition to the game.

I feel like the way this would get the most public approval is to ensure two things:
    1. the added IDs should compliment the current useage of the mythic, but not be essential to the point of making a reroll feel mandatory
    2. Assuming current IDs on the items were to get changed, key IDs that define the items and the item's gameplay revolve around should not be be changed for the worse (eg, strati's walk speed, gma's negative health regen, guardian's health bonus and so on)

I don't have any strong feelings in either direction as i don't own any mythics, but i understand the idea behind them so i wanted to throw my opinion into the mix.

I will not mention the poor state of actually acquiring mythics and how much they are dominating the overall economy, i shall make a different thread that adresses that at some point.

It's not something we'd be able to do for this update. There are many things that require dev-side changes that are planned and yet to be made. This won't be one of them. Changes would have to go in under the current system which is why we made this thread.

That's the plan. We have no reason to just add random identifications that don't fit with the item. Anything added would already be a part of the character of that mythic. Guardian's Major ID is already locked as for what we're going with. Numbers or mechanics regarding it are still subject to change, though.
