World Give The Witch In Maltic's Well A Happy Ending

In the quest Maltic's Well you meet a witch who has kidnapped a child. After finding her she explains she's not great with magic and only kidnapped the child because the people of Maltic were going to actually hunt her down, due to superstition. She just wants to be a witch with pointy hats, she never wanted to hurt anyone. While what she did was terrible, her reasons are understandable. We as Ragni soldiers have the responsibility to help the people of Wynn, even those who have made mistakes. I suggest we change the ending of the quest to give a happy ending to everyone involved.

The quest is the exact same up until just before the fight with the witch. This takes up right after she says, "W-Wait, that's not good at all, you're gonna... No! You won't take me out of here alive!

The witch attempts to cast a spell on you, but this time it fails instead of working like it did on the child.

Witch: "Guess the spell working was just a fluke... L-Look, I just want to live in peace as a witch, I can stay in the well, but I won't cast any harmful magic! I just want to live out my dreams of wearing pointy hats. Look, I'll turn the kid back, just please go talk to the citizens and explain, please. I don't have anything to give you... but you'd be doing an old witch a great favor."

After returning to Rynend

Rynend: "Oh you're back, and with my child! Oh, thank you so much! Huh? You say the witch down there is friendly? I suppose we did assume a lot about her right away. She says she'll stay in the well? Well, if she's really as innocent as you say, we can offer her a house up here. But we can handle telling her that. Thank you soldier, you've helped a lot of people today."

Overall I feel like we as soldier's are responsible for the wellbeing of every citizen in Wynn, and we should be using that power to help people when we can, instead of taking the easy way out of violence, which we already do with most other quests.

Edit: As Likeablesundew8 mentions, it could be a split quest for those who prefer to not trust the witch. Not sure how to go about that, but it's also an option for change.

Such a great idea, really sad quest so far...

 

Well I was thinking of something more along the lines of having the player drag her crippled body out of the well to die a gruesome death by burning her alive at the stake and turn Maltic's Well into a political satire about prejudice. But your ending could work too I guess.

also where is her family? like villagers know magic and shes a villager righttt? so shouldnt there be like a witch cult or slmething?

do they have a villager hogwarts?

 

Maybe it could be a split quest cause like its a good idea but some of us have more violent habits

Tbh I actually feel like it would legit be better if this spiraled into some morally gray which hunt.
Maybe not by your own hands, but giving you a choice in a conflict like that could be cool if they explored it well.

 

Yeah, tbh I think the point in trying to make is give us a choice. I really hated the old drale quest cause you stole money from him and the player just had to accept it. I think choice is important, especially in RPGs, and ESPECIALLY if it can be taken as morally black or even grey.

 

Oh christ, they butchered the old Maltic's well quest. The language used in this one, oh dear XD. You're right, it does need to be changed again.
