I really like the design and palette used in the last image. And the ocean effect you produced in the fourth image is quite nice. Some quality builds :D

 

These are great quality. I wanted to invite you to join us as we build for an event. Our guild is doing a Wynncraft World Fair (unofficial event) for members of Wynncraft to learn the beautiful diversity of the Wynncraft community, how we are all connected from all around the world and just to get to know everyone better. So yeah, we are going to have the server for it go live soon to start build preps, a small map for the event to take place. If you'd like to help, that'd be great. I am sure we could use your services.

I am not with Wynn con, however they are a great group and I think you'd like them. Our project is slightly different, but the same concept of a small mini-map (just less fantastic as wynn con hehe)

Hi, Just wanted your imput on my project that I am gonna use for my builders application.
P.S: This is like 30% done. I am gonna put rocks/boulders, bushes and other organics. Same with structures like a cabin and a tent site.

I can already see some jarring problems at this very early stage of the build. In general this is a good start to a very promising project.

1. composition

Perhapse the most important aspect of any project in my opinion, no matter how good your skill. If the composition of a build is down in the dumps. You ultimately cannot present your skill sucessfully. This was a problem I had when you saw my build Crash. build. I approached it more like a map in an RPG maprather then an acual artwork when building.

I can see you are applying for the wynncraft buildteam, but thinking like this is still not good. Currently you are working on a portfolio so you MUST focous on demonstrating your skill. Building a map like project is not how to do it!!!! How you should do it is think about your build like a photo or painting, this painting will ultimately be what is in your portfolio.

2. Terraforming
Please do not use the in built //replace random-id,random-id this looks bad and unprofessional. There are better tools in place for you to demonstrate your skill in terraforming!!!

Try symplex's, or using gobrush to make custom terraforming. Expariment with the //blob brush to make rocks. use //rotate to create custom flat bolders. use //derot to make diagonal buildings!

I am very glad that you came to me early... In the early stages of a build. mistakes can be easily fixed without much effort. If you fix all these mistakes I can pretty much guarentee you a spot on the BT.

 

Yes, I did use blob for rocks and made custom hand-made boulders, I added bushes with blob also and refined it. I already sent in my application with my finished build and If I don't make it with this one. Be sure, that I will apply your stuff in my next one. I also plan to start actively building on Builders Refuge so, maybe you can look/critique by build from all angles.

So, I've been getting promising applications back to back to back and I was just wondering. What is that extra "thing" that the CT is looking that will push me from the realm of promising to accepted?

I cant have a full perspective until I have seen your full portfolio.

But based on your post history, I have seen your builds. Structures are crude with no real defining shape, and generally look unrealstic and bad, overdetailed with little shape, variation or depth. Pallets are sloppy boring and generic. Terrain is basically a blob, with //replace slapped on. Composition is also very messy. I don't mean to offend you but from what I have seen from your build threads, I am supprised they even give you a promising.

The build team doesn't really expect that much from new builders, so I think if you are really determined. Your first prioritey is to just get better at all those things that I just said, dont worry about composition.

Your second priority should be constructing a portolio, to showcase your work to hams or who ever's running the team. You are not making something for the player, you are not making a map for wynncraft, remember, you are making it to SHOWCASE your skills. In every single image you want to grab their attention and demonstrate what you are capable of. Every single build which is featured on your portfolio must be unique, if they are too long the staff will simply stop reading.

Thirdly, you want to build up your repuation on the wynncraft fourms as a mature and trustworthy individual that the team is willing to work with because if you portray yourself as some jerk, no one is going to want you in the team, no matter your level of skill.

Follow all this and you can easily get into the wynncraft buildteam.
