we should be able to steal enemy undies hehe

Seriously though, just make stealing increase the chance of higher-tier crafting components and it suddenly becomes super good.

I think this is a good idea- I did notice stealing had a big lack in actual usefulness, I would also suggest if not buffed it just be removed entirely, because in its current state it is completely useless besides giving you 1 emerald every 1 enemy if you are lucky, to prevent it from being op, you could make certain mobs have a higher chance of stealing from, so you can't just go to a swarm of weak enemies and get the same amount of emeralds stolen as from a boss, for example.

Seeing as how it hasn't been brought up yet, there's currently a maximum of 5 emeralds per mob. Stealing only affects the speed at which you can get them. I think that just making that number higher would already buff stealing.

Besides, stealing isn't ment as a serious way of making money, more of a thematic/dump identification with a small bit of usability, like soul point regen.

That being said, it should defenitely be more useful than it is now. Giving mobs 1 (one) potion in addition to their emeralds to be stolen would be a balanced buff, pleasant way of getting potions without buying them, and even make sense lore-wise. +1.

I wasn't actually awae it had a limit, or how stealing mechanic actually works. now that I know I question it even more why such a useless id was added to the game.
