Should the Marketplace be removed?

  1. Yes, it's irrelevant and adds confusion

Recently the Exchange and the Marketplace were merged into one GUI... Cool, that's lovely... Thing is, the marketplace literally is just the exchange but has extra buttons...

In the marketplace if you sell an item, it has the exact same selling system as the exchange, and then it just adds it to the exchange anyways... Same thing goes if you're buying an item... Just like the marketplace, it has you search for an item, and then once you're there you can purchase it. The only difference the marketplace has from the exchange is that the exchange can buy items that are not already for sale... For example, if I was looking for some materials to buy and there were none that I wanted or could afford on the market, then I could create a "buy" request through the exchange that would be automatically fulfilled when someone sells that item on the market for a low enough price...

The exchange literally does everything the marketplace does, just with more functionality... Maybe I'm missing something here, but doesn't it just seem like the marketplace is irrelevant? You can easily sell and buy identified items through the exchange, and the marketplace redirects you back to the exchange the majority of the time anyways, so why not just remove the marketplace entirely and only keep the exchange?

Comment below if I'm missing something... Thanks!

You can’t sell IDed items on the exchange, only on the marketplace.

    They're not the same.

The marketplace price operates only on what the seller chooses, whereas the exchange operates on the average of the buyer and seller offers.

It makes a pretty big difference imo, as it makes more reliable for trying to sell items with better rolls.

You can select the price for both either way... the average is just displayed for convenience so you don’t put in a really low price and get scammed.

If anything the marketplace is less reliable because it’s difficult to compare prices so you end up with people selling thrundacrack for 250+ stacks

Also it shows the highest and lowest seller and buyer depending on what trade type you’re doing..

I don't mean the price check.

I mean the actual price itself.

On the exchange, highest buy offers and lowest sell offers are paired, with the average being the actual amount of money transferred.

On the marketplace, the only one who decides the final price is the seller with buyers picking which deals to go for.

In both the price is whatever they decide... When you add an item to the exchange it automatically prices to the average, but you can set it to be whatever you want... You could make 1 granite sell for 100000000 emeralds if you really wanted to

    Not true.

The exchange takes the average of the lowest sell offer and the highest buy offer. If you tried to sell 1 granite on the exchange for 100000000000, you would never actually get it exchanged so long as other sell offers were on the exchange because yours would, in most cases, not be the lowest sell offer.

In the marketplace, it doesn't take the average. It works like auctionhouses in other minecraft servers in the sense that the seller sets the price and buyers choose whether to buy for that price. So you can make 1 granite sell for 100000000 emeralds there, but it would never sell because buyers would never choose to do so.

    The point here is this:

Marketplaces give full price-setting control for sellers, which is better for selling something with good identifications.

Exchanges are automated processes that match high buyers and low sellers at averages, which make them efficient for bulk commodities or ones that don't vary in quality (like ids).

I did not understand any of this until reading this post. It would be really nice if there was some information somewhere about how to use these.

You can see what people are selling on the exchange too. It has the exact same search function.
I dont see how the average being displayed is relevant... If you want to sell instantly you can just look at the highest buyer price (for non-identified items) and for identified items you can just set whatever price you like... if you really want to get an idea of what they're really worth you can just search for that item and look at the prices other people put them up for... Literally the only difference is that the exchange also handles requests, and the marketplace doesn't display the average (which literally has no impact on selling)?

You're still talking about the pricecheck rather than the actual sell price.

    Please read my post again.

You’re talking about the actual sell price like you can’t just set it to whatever you want either way.. you can literally specify the exact price to sell it at regardless of what item it is in both the marketplace and the exchange... .-.
