World Personality Of "the Eye"

I'm supposing if you're into lore, you've heard of "The Eye". A being surrounded in a murky shroud of mystery and only vague references and a single basement showing us what it actually is.

What I've gathered so far from the Caritat Mansion quest and the basement itself:

-It constantly has a snarky attitude about it and carries a personality similar to a cliche RPG god antagonist that is beaten by a love triangle.
-It drove the Ancients to insanity.
-It can supposedly end all of existence if let loose.
-Bob locked it up somewhere (Sealed Letters)
-Has a huge tie in to the lore and is in the logo for a reason
-W.E. supposedly worships it for some reason (W. Exc Site C)

Based on all of this, it's one of those antagonists that is an immortal being, commonly calls people mortals, or any other traits of that matter.


....this is a horrible direction to take it in.

Bit of a suggestion towards its personality; I know it's barely been revealed, but this seems to be the way it's going.

I believe that a corrupted/twisted in both ways personality would be a good idea. A violent madness and malice combined with a pure, graceful and calm elegance. Imagine a mafia Godfather/Crime boss. They are evil, very much so, but they have class, elegance, and a calmness to them. The sort of person to brutally murder you and then have a cup of tea with you while smooth jazz plays in the background. They are calm, reserved, and elegant, then combined with a violent malice and insanity that cannot be matched by any person ever, and with the power to end existence itself. That direction would put me in interest within moments. Something like "Well, sir, you've been meddling with me for the past year, I hate you, and I will undo your entire existence. Now, red wine or white wine?"

I really like the idea of a greater antagonist for the wynn lore. But I agree with you that it's going in the wrong direction. All you can really say about it now is that the eye is some kind of big scary evil character. The only personaly trait to it seems to be evil. I really hope they make the eye an actually good and interesting character. I don't think we know enough about the eye to make a proper suggestion on what it should act like so I can't really agree or disagree with you on your suggestion.

Oh and I also spawn @SPYROHAWK from the deepest depths of the forum games section.

 

In Memory Paranoia, it constantly calls Mr. Caritat "mortal" and constantly acts with that same personality I talked about.

 

Yeah and I agree that it should be changed and it's good that you listed what we know about it. However I don't think that's enough information about who the Eye is to make a good personality. Besides the Eye being evil, turning people crazy and corrupting stuff there aren't really any patterns in it's behaviour.

Yes, it does sound like the mysterious force of vagueness and eating babies (TM)
And a mysterious force of vagueness and eating babies is not the best possible villain

But we don't know where it will be taken (or has been taken, if the lore is written)
The eye could not only be the "mysterious force of vagueness and eating babies" but also the "I hate everything for a sensible reasons and have one good point, therefore must destroy everything" or the "CHAOTIC EVIL THAT THINKS IT'S GOOD FROM A SPECIFIC PERSPECTIVE" or something else entirely. "Extraordinarily strong Al Captwo" could be an option as could "screw metaphysics, I have classy suits (AKA G-man)" or "Totally not Cuthulu" or "THE HIVEMIND" or "THE SWARM THAT CONSUMES ALL"

why are you suggesting that the CT change something that isnt even fully made yet

we literally know jack shit about the eye other than that its evil, and even then there could be some massive ass plot twist that says otherwise because of how little we actually know

idk about you but I trust the CT to do a good job with whatever The Eye turns out to be

 

I'm just saying, *so far, with how it appears to be, and considering they're trying to avoid contradictions now, I'm 88% sure that they're going to make it like that.

Considering it's been planned for since 2014, they might've already started planning everything with that personality in mind.

 

Do we necessarily know that the Eye is even an entity rather than something more like a force?

Because the Eye is really important. If they mess up and just make a really evil character that would be a really bad thing. I don't think he's suggesting to change what we have not but just how they make the eye in the future.

 

Even if it's not like that, still a suggestion to the CT. If they're making it like that, change it. If they're not, I'm still asking they take something like that into consideration.

Fair enough, but if that's the way it's being said then this entire thread boils down to "Don't make The Eye a shitty character."

Y'all are treating the CT like they don't understand the weight that this character holds. The fact that they've waited so long to go in depth with The Eye shows me they are being careful about it and are fully aware that they need to nail The Eye's character.

 

The CT probably understand. But Grian and Salted made the plans for it years ago. They may not want to have to revamp half the lore just to fit its new personality.

And if they haven't decided yet, this is just an idea that I'd think works. I just addressed the possibility that they might make it a shitty character, and what does already exist may lead to a boring character.

Like I said, just my suggestion of what it could be like.

 

I’d honestly love to see it as a rage-filled hermit type creature; it only attacks people because they invade its territory; otherwise it couldn’t care less. It’d put a nice twist on the whole dark=bad cliche as well

 

Though I haven't got any info regarding the thing, I wouldn't imagine that giving something a personality would force them to rewrite a ton of lore, unless the entire thing is counter to the new personality given(and then, they can just give it a different personality???).

 

I've done my fair share of writing before. I decided to make a few changes to a character's personality, and ended up having to go through the entire story, changing dialogue, actions, etc. how he reacted to things, etc. and going from

"You are powerless against me, mortal! I will tear you apart limb from limb, and darkness shall rule forever!"

to

"Ah, I see. Anyways, so much so, your abrasive attitude has grown out of hand. I don't doubt that I could possibly change you, but right now? Not the best plan, your death is my sincerest and most efficient course of action at this moment, and either way, I'd love to kill you. But let's forget that, we're here to relax! Now, which do you prefer? Red wine or white wine? And which song would you like me to play, hmm? I am truly a fan of jazz if I would say so myself."

Is a pretty big jump in attitude and personality. Going from Nagarath-But-Omnipotent to an aristocratic individual that understands that it is evil, but doesn't let that get in the way of an elegant and charismatic charm to itself.

nah, I didn't mean like that. Affably Evil villains are generally poorly done and turn up into anti villains. I didn't mean that he might actually pull off a night of wine and jazz with the hero, just that it would have that sort of air of wine and jazz in its tone, or a complete disconnect from its own actions, like brutally slaughtering an entire group of rebellious people while humming along to You ain't nothing but a hound dog by Elvis Presley or thinking about how delightful the food it often eats is.

Just that elegant tone and talk. An evil that none in existence can stand the sight of? Yes. But does it take grace in this, instead of causing it to be more brash and disgusting in its nature, it bolsters its harsh evil by making it seem even more customary and elegant? Yes.
The sort of person to herd an entire group of people, smile down and tighten the sleeves of its suit up just before waving his hand for their execution, and then afterwards scold his minions for leaving a mess of their blood on the marbled flooring.

It's going to be clear; the player and the eye absolutely hate each other, and wouldn't miss a chance to get at the other's throat. But the Eye would walk forward with a professional and smooth walk, and carefully draw its sword, slowly draw its hand across the back of the blade in admiration, before lowering it to his side in preparation for a duel.
