Don’t you love the way sometimes quests are like, “Maybe if you do this then you’ll get what you want”, key word being maybe. Surprisingly, this hypothetical solution actually ends up working. I mean, take this for example. In the quest Out of my Mind, Ariodo has nothing in particular to confirm his method will work. But it does. He doesn’t consider that maybe if the coconut hits your head, maybe it might cause more brain damage. He doesn’t consider anything at all. But it works.

    Here’s another example.
In Fantastic Voyage, Relend says that “Maybe you can free me with this cannonball.” It works, but did he even consider that the cannonball could have fucking killed him?

Point is, quests with these “Maybe” things should have you try at least 2 different methods before getting one that works.

doesn’t have to be fetchy, like “why don’t you try that other thing there” or for the case of Fantastic Voyage it could be something where you build a seesaw out of materials like right next to you.

I agree with the choices statements above. Having more variation and decisions in quests helps with replayability. I wouldn't be the least bit opposed to additional solutions to quests as long as they aren't ridiculous.

I personally think the npc shouldn't say anything about how to do a puzzle. It would be way more interesting if there was some problemsolving with multiple outcomes where you had to think creatively.

In the couple cases we've tried, people have just considered it to be pointless padding so we removed them and streamlined it. There's no way we're gonna make everyone happy

You can never make everyone happy, just like how the community is divided over CSST. Some are unhappy about it now, but if you remove CSST, you make the other half of the community unhappy.
