Right now the whole guard dynamic isn’t very immersive. You can kill a citizen without them noticing.

What Im suggesting is, if you attack (movements spells won’t trigger it) a citizen with a guard near by, the guards will chase after you. If they hit you, you’ll get slowness and weakness for a time, then they’ll stop going after you. During the short time you have the effects, stealing won’t work. Mages won’t be able to remove these effects with heal.

If they go long enough without hitting you, or go good far away from their spawn point, the agro will cancel. In addition to this you will also be able attack guards in cities again, but only if they’re targeting you.

This is to both help immersion and stop players from easily attacking citizens.

I feel like with this chance a buff with stealing might be good too, making it possible to get items as well as emeralds, and perhaps a small chance for emerald blocks or other things.

    Vote in pole!

Though I agree with the fact that guards are quite pointless, they cant even defend cities properly, I think making guards chase and attack you will do a lot of harm, accidentally hitting a citizen and getting swarmed by guards that already have high enough damage to kill the mobs might cause a lot of deaths. Maybe instead of them attacking you until you die or until time runs out, they just chase you, if they catch up, hit you once with 0 damage as a warning, send a simple message saying something like "watch where youre attacking", would bring some interraction without causing newbie deaths.

This might be ok with some tweaking, since anyone attempting to teleport/leap in a city is bound to accidentally harm a citizen. It might be best to keep this in certain small cities like Lexdale instead of everywhere.

No, should definitely be all cities. I see what you mean for movement spells though. I’ll think of a solution.

It would be really annoying in large cities to duel or trade, since if you forget the ‘shift’ part of shift+click, and there happens to be a mob behind you, suddenly all the guards arw after you. Also, would all guards everywhere be attacking you or only from that city?
Would it be possible to forcibly get all the guards out of a city, leaving it completely open to players bringing mobs there?
Would you eternally be chased by the guards or do they stop after a certain time? Do they try to kill you or just damage you?

Ummm you’re just being over dramatic now. In the small chance any of this happens, all you get is slowness and weakness for a little bit.

I really like this idea. It adds some more purpose to them in my opinion. Why only protect the towns people from the outside if they're getting hurt from the inside

From a worldbuilding standpoint sure but this screws over the gameplay for no real reason other than "realism" so no.

This screws over like NO gameplay... Like it barely effects it. It’s the small thing that matter, I’m not going for realism I’m going for immersion. Besides if stealing gets buffed with it, it adds more ways to get things

i mean, id love for guards to not be shit, and for stealing to not be shit

but this pretty much changes nothing, as guards are (or were) easier to kill than citizens

You say adding this will increase immersion? I'm pretty sure getting annoyingly hit by guards almost every time you charge or teleport accidently through villagers is not immersive.

But what happens if villagers were immune to the spells that can cause accidental aoe damage to villagers? That would be a lot of work for something not gameplay defining, taking away from better features. But what happens if it did not take a lot of work to program? If they were immune to the spells that might cause accidental harm to npcs, it would basically saying, you can only kill villagers if you use melee.

Theeef, if it is for immersion but it can be commonly an annoyance, then it should not be added. Ironically, it breaks the immersion because of the fact some guard you pissed off is attacking you by spamming meteors around Detlas for fun.

The stealing buff to villagers would be kind of nice though. However, almost everyone doesn't care about stealing sadly.

But what about other spells like arrow shield, meteor, spin attack and bash affecting villagers? What happens if you accidentally hit them trying to attack mobs that got into the city?

Mobs don’t get into cities. Guards kill them too.

Chance that happens anyways is so low.
