In the quest Rise of Quarton if you try to go into the bandit's mansion before handing the contract to the Nasea you will be prompted with this message

Once you hand the contract to Nasea and return to the mansion you are given this message

Why would such a strong barrier just fall once you hand a slip of paper to some guy? I bet there are other situations where you can't enter a certain building/area because of story progression and I don't mind that but give better reasons for us not being allowed to go in there.

A good example is Hollow Sirene where you couldn't enter the Banshee's cave because he was too loud and when you put on the earmuffs you can enter. However until then the quest is

    LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE

It's fairly easy to assume the wall works two ways. It keeps you out, but it also keeps things like the Quartron and its scientists in. So, it just happens that after you deliver the paper to Nasea, the mages take down the wall because, let's say they were getting a new shipment of quartz, or someone had to use the outhouse.

Most quests are like that to just stall progression. They do get extremely annoying, though some are so dumb that they are kinda funny. In a perfect world, I would destroy every single last one of them.

............ok? Since when was that ever established in the quest? We barely know who those wizard guys were even after the quest.

Or the player can just not be allowed to waltz through the entrance of this apparent secret mining operation and have the player enter through an alternate route similar to Kingdom of Sand or Royal Trials.
Even better is to not allow the player to not enter in through the front but instead have the player take out a guard tower nearby so the player can enter through the front. I don't know but these options seem a bit more immersive then just "oh the wall is now down for some reason, cool".

Additionally why would anyone want to keep a wall that keeps them in? Unless they want to have fun with some Danganronpa murder mystery scenarios.

    Even then..

As stated, that's if we wanted to handwave it. This is, mind, one of the first Gavel quests made, so we didn't have as refined methods as we do now. Things like this were normal until we improved on them.
