With the recent change of the server capacity from 75 to 100, loot runs have become harder and harder to manage. With fewer servers and more players on each server, chests are usually spotty or completely non existent on loot runs.

My suggestion is that we change up how loot chests work on the server since we seem to be moving in the direction of fewer servers with more players. (We had an increase a few months ago from 60 to 75 as well). Loot chests should be reliant on the player who opens them instead of reliant on the server they are on. I will detail the suggestion and the pro's/con's.

Suggestion: Chests will permanently stay on the map when opened. Instead of respawning on a set world timer, chests can either gradually decrease in loot the more you open them during an allocated time period or will decrease loot depending on how many times you open that specific chest over the course of a day. (Probably a combination of both to avoid players afking and opening the same chests over a loot run.)

Edit: As someone suggested, it might be good to have chests despawn on your screen only so you can tell when chests can be reopened again. This wouldn't affect chests on any other player's screen.

    Pros:

    - Everyone on the server will now have a fair chance to loot run. Gone are the days of starting a loot run to find out that all of the chests except your starting chest have disappeared.

    - It solves the issue of there being fewer servers. With fewer servers, there are less servers to choose from if you see that your desired loot place has been looted already.

    - It allows for scale-ability. If we move in the direction of an eventual single server mega world (which is unlikely), this topic will be brought up a lot more frequently. Why not solve it, or suggest fixes for it now.

    - Players will be able to plan out loot runs more strategically since they will always know every chest's location.

    Cons:

    - The lucky and frequent loot runners will have to limit their amount of loot runs a day because of how loot will decrease over time. Not a terrible setback though if they couldn't complete loot runs due to their being no chests anyway.

    - Data storage for the server may get a bit hectic. As of right now (and im just making an analysis, so this might not be accurate), the server seems to check how often loot chests were opened on the server you are on and a separate timer for chests opened by you so you can't quickly switch servers and take all of the chests. [the 2/5/10/20 min timer]. If we switch to static chests, I'm not sure how much more of a strain it would be on the server to collect more data per player.

    - Everyone will know every chest location. Both good and bad.

    - People don't like change. -Shrug-

I'd say just keep the system as it is, except instead of the loot chest breaking, the player that opened it won't be able to open it again until the server restarts.

I’m pretty sure loot runs aren’t an intended feature, so we can’t really expect in game mechanics because they’re a little harder. Chests going away after you open them is super satisfying. Also some chests block the way of a path, for example there’s one in Thanos that blocks you from leaving an area.

Although it may not be an intended feature, it has been a long running thing that players have done. That doesn't mean there can't be suggestions to change things though :D

Additionally, a good solution to that Chest Issue would be to break chests on your screen personally so you know you can't reopen that chest. That keeps the nostalgic chest pop and fixes any chests that may be path blocking. It would still remain on everyone else's screen though to be looted.

This is only somewhat true in my opinion. Players that have lucky loot runs where they get most of a loot run's chest will now likely (still a lot of RNG with items) have an advantage since they will have more loot to sell on the market. I would rather have everyone get an equal opportunity to profit.

I agree a change is needed, but I still like to have the chest go away, for satisfaction purposes. A few possible changes I can think of are decreasing the respawn time of the chest, changing the respawn time to be a static number ( T1= 5 minutes, T2 = 10 minutes, T3 = 30 minutes, T4 = 1 hour; < not sure if this is already in the system),
or make killing mobs around the chest count toward increasing loot or decreasing respawn time. (It might make it worthwhile to stick around instead of loot running constantly)
