    I don't quite understand Wynncraft's necroposting policy.

To start of, this is the rule:

    16. Necroposting
(Posting on a thread that is considered dead/or has no discussion; hasn't been replied to in approximately 30 days or more for no legitimate reason. The OP can request for an unlock.)

My issue with the rule is the fact that necroposting is determined based on consecutive days of not posting in a thread. 30 days/month isn't a long period of time. Most of the information is gonna be relevant after that period.

OP makes a thread. After 3 days, the discussion ends/dies, but OP keeps bumping the thread every few days, but no one is posting in it for quite some time, and then after 3 months someone posts in it.
How is that okay? Spamming "bumps" in order to potentially farm for likes even tho no one has anything contributing to say!? Now take away all those bumps OP made, and all of a sudden you have a necroposting situation. Do you see the irony? The only reason why one is considered a necropost while other isn't is due to OPs spamming. Discussion died long ago but somehow, that's okay, because the time difference between last post, and post before that, isn't longer than 30 days.

There are so many threads out there, that served it's purpose, but because OPs keep bumping them, that's not necroposting. I don't wish to link any as I don't want to make anything personal or expose anyone.

The part I want you to focus on is this:
Why aren't mods checking the relevancy of the thread/information in it instead of locking it on site when they notice the 30 day criteria?

I am gonna use this thread as an example:
    https://forums.wynncraft.com/threads/your-top-5-favorite-games.104616/page-13#post-2625758

Why has it been locked? You people scream all the time to "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION REEEE" but when someone does, you punish them by slapping a no necroposting rule into their face.
I understand locking buying/selling threads. I understand locking threads that are outdated and information inaccurate, but to lock threads based on a time stamp is unnecessary if there is still a discussion potential.
Why couldn't the "necroposting user" post his top 5 favorite games? Should he make a new thread just to do that, so others can repeat the exact same things they already mentioned in other thread? Are we gonna have 15 different threads on the same subject? Do you understand how unnecessary that is?

Threads self-lock after how many days, 90? Why isn't that enough?

Because when a thread is dead, it's usually because the community wants it dead. Bumping isn't that hard.

They still do, 90 days or so from what I have seen, hence my entire post.

Some reasons: They dont want to leave a thread there for so long and having like 100000 views and 10000 replies, its just not nice to see a thread so old and having so many replies. Because one would not look through the 10000 replies and might ask the same question that another reply has asked, considering that OP is done with the thread.

But for trade market, your point quite applies. I once had a shop that I spend lots of time making it. After some time, I "quit" wynncraft but came back after 3 months or so. I wanted to operate the shop again but then its locked... Had to create a new post again.

That's a fair point, if a thread has many replies. I agree with that, however, most of them don't.

And, regarding your shop, you can report your thread and request a mod to unlock it and bump it for you.

I’ve never had a problem with how necroposting is dealt with. Sure the mods could be a bit more lax sometimes and take context into account, but those cases are so few and far between that it doesn’t make much of a difference.

I think the problem of people constantly bumping their threads isn’t that big of a deal. Obviously if it’s excessive then it should be dealt with, but there’s nothing wrong with it by itself.

We use a thread being inactive for ~30 days as a way of keeping track of what topic is dead or not, if threads such as "Build Server Chat Memes", "Post a Picture of Yourself" etc get a necropost they will not be closed as the topic will never actually die. The threads will autolock themselves after some time. However, having an old thread getting bumped with a question is something pretty annoying.

Revamping the system would mean making the moderators spend a lot of time reading every single comment in a thread and then thinking if it is dead or not. The OP may ask a thread re-open if there's a necro and if you think a thread should be re-opened, use the report button and we will check, thanks for the feedback! @T-Flex .

Feel free to reply here/Discuss/Disagree with my comment.

Thank you for the response. You are the 1st mod/member of staff who actually acknowledged what I wrote.

I'm not asking you to read everything everyone wrote. I'm just asking for stuff like this not to happen. I really hate throwing Stag under the bus, so I'll apologize to him if needed, but that thread is a perfect example of necro rule being misinterpreted. Strati only wanted to share his favorite games, and in return, the thread got locked. That kind of stuff is extremely demotivating and demoralizing. He didn't do anything wrong.

I mean I can report the thread if I think it was wrongly locked, I just dislike the whole premise of pointing out mod's mistakes. I shouldn't be put in that position, cause quite frankly, I just look like a giant dick which I am not proud of. I even hate this thread for the exact same reason.
