Game Design Dialogue Is Too Fast (in Some Quests)

    Problem:

I just finished the Fate of the Fallen a few days ago, and I thought it was a pretty decent quest. While most of the quest was really focused on the story telling front rather than gameplay, I really liked how the quest expanded more on who the Twains were, specifically Theoric, and the history of Nessak. But something that really annoyed me was how fast some of the dialogue was near the beginning of the quest. When you first meet Theoric , the time he saves the random women from the corrupted "horde", your bombarded with all this text you have to read and distracts from the cool command block animations. Of course, many people could care less about whats happening. To be fair, the dialogue doesn't have much significance anyways. This is just some feedback that I would like to be put into consideration. Idk, I just like nitpicking.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Possible Solutions:

#1 Break up the long sentences.

First of all, break up the sentences and slow them down. Its a lot easier to read a single sentence then 3 clumped up together. This can just be one fix all together. Most of us can read dialogue while keeping up with whats happening in the quest. For example, take this:

    Theorick:
Ugh, is she dragging them over from the west?! Idiots, every last one of them... If you don't want to end up frozen, GET BEHIND ME, NOW!!

    And edit it to this.

Theorick: Ugh, is she dragging them over from the west?!

Theorick: Idiots, every last one of them...

Theorick: If you don't want to end up frozen, GET BEHIND ME, NOW!!

The only change I made was break up the dialogue. Give space between the edits, and it becomes so much easier to digest everything... maybe? (Okay it doesn't do too much, but again, feedback)

#2 Bring back the Grey Text.
Before cmd animations were a thing, us players used to use our imagination to give an idea on what was happening. You can see this method being used in Frost Bitten in particular. The quest is filled with instances of the grey text in place of actions, sorta like something you would see in a book. I propose that grey text should be shown right before the animation happens, giving the player the chance to look up and witness the hard work some of the cmd ct put into these quests. So for example:

Theorick: Ugh, is she dragging them over from the west?! Idiots, every last one of them... If you don't want to end up frozen, GET BEHIND ME, NOW!!

You feel a cold gust hit your face as you witness Theoric performs his magic.

Then the animation would play normally after reading the grey text. Again, just slowing down everything to make it easier to process.

#3 Its already being worked on.

    Specifically, 1:33

Hope you don't mind @DrBracewell. Anyways, as you can see here, it is possible to cmd something to read the dialogue at your own pace. Now, connecting it up with all the other things that make a quest work is something I'm not sure is entirely possible. We'll just have to wait and see.

Anyways, the feedback was purely based on my opinion. I don't think all quests are plagued with this problem, just the ones where text and cmd animations collide . I'm also not aware of any command block limitations that mess with how the dialogue works, so if there are I would like to know. This feedback is probably pretty useless since most people don't have this problem, just another annoyance I find.

Interesting idea, but people read at their own pace and some people don't even read the dialogue. This would be nice to have but I'm not sure how the game is improved by this.

I mean, we don't do our quests by CMDs, but there is an option in the YML for "delay". The GM guide says it should be around 5-6, but if lots of people are bothered by this we can consider making it longer.

Can you make it longer for some specific quests? It definitely doesn't need to be longer for most quests. FotF cinematics go way too quickly compared to similar quests.

Tbh I’d rather have it stay the same so if you’re doing the quest on other higher levels to get back to 100% quests you don’t sit there forever
