This is a follow-up on my latest thread about my idea for Glyphs. If you do not mind being confused, I will link to it at the end of this thread for reference. This new system is way simpler than the old one, so I hope you like it and feel free to comment your thoughts/opinions in the comments. :D

    Glyphs 2.1
Even though I think some of you have already read my last thread, I will still explain the whole system from scratch. My last thread called Glyphs "Accessories on Steroids" and this is still very much true. However, the old system was for my entertainment and not so much for general use, which is what this new idea is for.

Also, as with last time, balancing Glyphs is not my goal. If a specific Glyph is overpowered or underpowered, I do not care. Balancing has never been my strength, and while I tried to keep them somewhat fair, I know there will be problems. Feel free to post your balance suggestions in the comments, but do keep in mind I may not respond to these as my goal is the concept, not the balance of the system.

Anyways, lets get into the idea.

Glyphs? What the hell are Glyphs?

Think of Glyphs like accessories 2.0. They are not the same as accessories, but they are similar in a sense that they provide advantages and drawbacks without being an armor slot. Each Glyph has specific bonuses attached to it, while also giving disadvantages as well. Here are a few screenshots of how this would look in game.

Here is where you would go to find the Glyphs menu

Here is a look at what Glyphs look like when they are locked
    [IMG]
Here is an example of what the selection button would look like

Okay, so Glyphs would be broken up into 3 seperate tiers. Unique, Rare, and Legendary. Each tier has 2 slots, which are unlocked at certain levels. For example, Unique slot 1 unlocks at Level 11, while the 2nd slot unlocks at Level 21. Same-tiered slots share the same Glyphs, so you can use the same Unique Glyph in either Unique slot.
Alright, here is an example of a Rare Glyph.

In this example, by giving up damage and less Mana costs, you get slowing attacks on your basic attacks and Arrow Storm. This is what I had in mind, as well as a few others that I made. Here are some screenshots of other Glyphs I came up with.

Now, you are also able to change Glyphs or even remove them completely if you do not want one anymore. However, this comes at a cost of 1 Soul Point.

Okay, now how do I get these Glyphs?

Collecting these Glyphs can be done in one of 3 ways. The first and simplest is just by killing Mobs. If a mob killed had a Glyph, instead of adding it to your inventory it will delete it and give you this message.

If you get a duplicate Glyph, it is just added to your inventory as normal. You can sell it, trade it, or throw it away. However, be careful. If you trade it to someone who does not have it, once the trade is accepted they automatically get the Glyph added to their Glyph menu. You cannot transfer or remove Glyphs you only have one of.

The other two ways are also fairly standard, quests and dungeons. For example, that earlier Glyph called "Glyph of the Nesaak River" could be a reward for completing the quest Underice. For dungeons, it could cost the special boss drops or the fragments in the Dungeon Shop. Here is an example of one that could be from the Infested Pit.

I hope this idea is much simpler than my previous system, and is a lot more user-friendly to understand. Feel free to leave any comments or ideas for this system, and I will do my best to reply to everyone.

For those who missed my second version of this (the first one was my Skill Points idea, which I linked in my last thread if you also want to see that) click here for that thread.

Thank you for actually reading my entire thread, have a wonderful day!

I liked both ideas but this would make more sense gameplay-wise. +1 support

This is a wonderful idea and could add even more depth to the game. However, something like this could make certain builds broken, so a lot of balance would have to take place. The content team would have to walk a fine line between them being useful but not overpowered. But I'll give support, very nice and unique idea

I can certainly agree. Thats why I mentioned balancing is not my goal, as if I was good at balancing I would apply for CT team. And while I doubt this system will ever be implemented, this is just another one of my random ideas I thought people would enjoy.

Both ideas are good, but this one is a lot better imo purely because of how much easier it is to understand than the other one, in particular I like that you removed the Unstable glyphs. They were very confusing.

Can agree 100%. The goals of these threads were very different. That one was for my entertainment, and this one is for actual gameplay. Unstable Glyphs were the result of my mind going crazy, so thats why the old system was so complicated.
